Cops surprised that 17-year-old from Dhanbad managed to get Anil Ambani's personal email ID

Mumbai Mirror Bureau

Posted On Saturday, January 22, 2011 at 03:23:55 AM

Ateen from Jharkhand who sent threat mail to Anil Ambani posing as a Pakistani national on January 15 was produced in court on Friday.

The 17-year-old, whose name is being withheld as he is a minor, is a resident of Harna village in Dhanbad district. He threatened Ambani hoping it would move the Indian Government to act against terror groups based in Pakistan, investigators said.

The email, generated from [email protected], said, "Bohot paisa hai tere paas; Taj Hotel ke baad teri baari hai Ambani (you have lot of money; after the Taj Hotel incident, now it's your turn Ambani)." The cops were sent on a wild goose chase and Ambani's security was tightened.

Anil Ambani's security was tightened after the email
Police said the boy was driven by "patriotic fervour" and believed India was not doing enough in tackling Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. "He genuinely believed India could attack Pakistan after threat to Ambani," an officer said.

Investigators are trying to find out how the boy obtained Ambani's personal email ID. Son of an oil trader, the boy will be lodged in juvenile home till his family completes bail formalities.

"The threat eventually proved to be a prank, but for all these days since the mail arrived, Ambani's security was beefed up," a senior police official said.

Less than two hours after the mail arrived, the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group officials lodged a complaint with Mumbai Crime Branch and investigations were handed over to the Cyber Crime Cell.

The email was traced to a coaching class at Harna. There, cops found the internet connection from which the mail was sent, was accessed by many students. A police source said, "The person who ran the coaching class was taken into confidence.

Later, we pretended to be government volunteers educating youth against misuse of internet, and interviewed more than two dozen students who had accessed internet that day. Eventually, we zeroed in on this boy who confessed to have sent the mail."

Not attacking Pak after 26/11 changed a lot of things. People (me included) got curious about how our neighbor perceives us.

Sadly on their online fora it was all "amar singh" and "saffron wrist bands".

There is this pent up anger...... a safety valve just won't suffice :agni:

This will continue to rise more and more as the government becomes more and more spineless. And it will get to dangerous levels. This guy is a kid; imagine the families of those who have lost their loved ones to jihad. Sons of martyred soldiers, brothers of dead policemen, children of thousands of victims that are now fatherless or motherless... the GOI is not thinking of all this and continues to shut its coward eyes. Couple this with the general hatred for PLA in northeastern states, Tibetan refugees and growing anger of people for being non-responsive to external threats, further adding rising cost, scams after scams etc.....

IMO, The Con party is sitting on top of a volcano and attempting to shut its mouth with their bottoms. Really wonder when this pressure gets out of control, how far will Con-party be blasted off by this 'volcano's explosion.:scared::high5:

Maybe it's a prank by a random kid with issues, but this is a big development. The kid may have just inspired many others, ultra-nationalists, with actual means to carry out attacks on the elites, on how they can make their government listen.

India's democracy is in a terrible shape today. The government is completely impervious to public sentiment, and even if someone stands up for them, they're dismissed as either activists with angst, or politicians looking for scoring political points. The state-controlled media (NDTV/IBN/Times/AajTak), simply play along.

Hope they realize they may end up causing the deaths of millions and may end up suffering from nuclear fallout(If they survive) and stunting India's growth for 4-5 decades.
Hope these fools are put in to some Mental rehabilitation home, these people give a bad name to the rest of the sane teens....

If there's a better way, which has not been tried already, by which GoI can be convinced to take direct action on terrorism, please suggest.

Jingoism pills to be more accurate........
Jingoism is dismissing the fact that India is being pounded by Pakistani terrorism, and saying that the country and its government are the greatest there is.

Patriotism is identifying what's wrong, and trying to fix it.

Daftarse..should have dropped a threatening mail to Madame and her offspring, if his intentions were what claimed them to be.

With what are you going to fight 80% of armoured force suffer from night blindness, Officers numbers in serious shortage,Lack of artillery,Navy lacks submarines this is perhaps the only thing MMS did correct it saved the lives of many jawans. There's no doubt we would prevail over the purist but many Jawans would have died which can be avoided i say let's rebuild the armed forces and its morale after that KABOOM !!!

the correct thing would have been to ensure that those shortcomings are rectified as soon as possible so that when indeed the time comes when we must go to war for our survival, our soldiers are not laid out like lambs for slaughter.

has the kid been charged? i think he was taken in custody as he should have to verify all facts about the incident. he will be let off for sure if its indeed a case of the boy wanting to shake the govt into action against pak.
