A dispute over ancient German treasure looted by Soviet troops at the end of the Second World War has led to a diplomatic spat between Angela Merkel and Vladimir Putin.

Plans for the German chancellor and the Russian president to jointly open an exhibition at St Petersburg's Hermitage museum on Friday night have been cancelled by the Russian government because Mrs Merkel planned to call for the return of the artefacts in her speech.

Country flag
This is slightly hypocritical on Germany's part since the Nazis themselves looted and pillaged most of the territories they invaded. Plus, the Soviet actions can be justified as acquiring spoils of war.

Though, Britain takes the cake when it comes to systematically siphoning off a country's wealth and not having an iota of shame about it even after 7 decades :-D.
