Six-day space festival in Coimbatore from July 9

Coimbatore: Live working models of space equipment from NASA, DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation) and ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) would be displayed for the benefit of students and researchers during the six-day 'Space Festival 2012,' beginning from July nine.

Models of Solar Viewing Telescope, Scale model of Sun-Earth system from NASA and Brahmos, other missiles from DRDO and rockets from ISRO will be displayed during the first such event in South India, which would be a confluence of the best minds from these organisations, Dr C Swaminathan, Vice-Chancellor, Bharathiar University, told reporters.

The university is the coordinating institution of the event.

There will be nine visiting NASA scientists, giving lectures every day at the event, to be inaugurated by former President, APJ Abdul Kalam, he said.

Dr VK Saraswath, Chief of Department of Science and Technology and Scientific Adviser to Prime Minister, Dr A Sivathanu Pillai, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Brahmos and ISRO Chandrayan project director, Mylsamy Annadurai, would be present.
