Shenzhen city is a hyper-modern metrpolitan with over 10 million population today, it is also one of 4 widely-admited tier 1 cities in CHina( Shanghai,Beijing,Guangzhou and Shenzhen)
however, in 1980, Shenzhen was still a typical 3rd world town....here are some pictures of Shenzhen in 1980
well, then I introduce my homecounty-Nankang countytown. It was a small typical 3rd world town in 1980 too,and now it is still a tier 5 city in inland CHina. Here are some pictures of old downtown build before 1990,which occupy less 10% of the city nowdays.....it is almost as same as it was in 1980....those old buildings are located in the center of old downtown... Local government wanted to demolish and rebuild new buildings ,but has to give up,because the government can not afford the huge compensation.... So, those old buldings now still exist there.... before 1990, Nankang countytown had only 40K population.
The very first picture reminds me of SimCity that I used to play years ago. Nice city skyline, @badguy2000.
it is new urban area in Nankang countytown...it has now 300K populaiton.,but it is still a unknown tier5 city in inland CHina. those are areas built in 1990s, it occupy about 1/3 of the city. those are areas built after 2000...now the new areas occupy over half of the city.
three pictures to say all. even in 1984 still a shit hole situation way backwards than shangsha or wuhan. no need to think of comparing shenzhen with guangzhou. 2008 close to now cpc actually has won the gambling game. no one knew what this village would finally turn out to be when it was changed into the first SEZ of prc. i guess who ever made the bold plan in the late 1970s must have failed to predict how shenzhen can look like now.
