This insistence that India sign on to a discriminatory regime such as NPT is a fetish still being practiced by some even more self-righteous members of an already self-righteous group like NSG. It's obvious the new ground realities are lost on them.

We don't need to discuss the failures of NPT here except that the focus of treaty seems to be on non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, which India has not done. But there is other big part of NPT nobody is discussing and that is sections concerning nuclear disarmament, which no country -- members of the elite P5 -- have done. Yet NSG members expect India to sign away its nuclear deterrent.
