Re: Major Suggestion for future Defence Exhibitions n' DFI presence @

Thank you all for the favorable reception.

Of course, this is an idea that involves some cost and it may be worthwhile to do a pledge campaign or donation drive to raise some funds. If the mods can come up with a cost estimate once they've discussed it, I, as I'm sure many others, would be happy to contribute.

@cloud_9 is right, though. We need an official logo that can represent what DFI stands for. And I'm sure many of the creative heads here can come together to design one and a layout for the card.

P.S. While challenge coins may sound appealing, it might not exactly be the most cost-effective method of doing what we want to.

may i give a serious suggestion - ...work along these line :-
promote this site as a think tank - not necessarily staidly academic , but lively and with scenario building and other ideas
many of us here are university grads and postgrad ; serving military , retired or like me with consulting experience to military

systems manufacturers will want to advertise as we shall use their systems in scenarios
scenario building dept in the various depts in Indian military would want to see what we can conjure-up
( this could be in large but closed group discussion )

What is the logic behind this "Moustache" one??

The brand image of DFI should relate to something Defense+Nation.
I moustache you a question, i.e. I "must ask" you a question. :)

I like that idea. I think a separate sub-forum for IDSA topics might be created where we could explore the idea to its full potential.

Fact is, however, that this is one of a handful of online platforms where 'average', everyday civilians (myself included) can come together and discuss topics of a military nature without being embarrassed or intimidated. And I don't think that essential character of the forum should change. A separate subforum, though, for defense professionals, defence analysts, those with prior or ongoing interaction with the military: whether legal, commercial, in OFB employment or advisory, those in strategic sectors like aerospace and nuclear technology and those knowledgeable enough to contribute something from either extensive study or first-hand experience could post, may not be a bad idea.

GOI will say Ashok Chakra is its property. You will be in legal trouble.
:wat: the Ashoka Chakra is in the public domain.
Anyway DFI cards sound good.

OT
It's not called IDSA anymore to avoid confusion.

I did not know about this. Thanks.
Anyway google uncle tells me that the State Emblem of India (Prohibition of Improper Use) Act, 2005 applies to the Emblem of India and not to the Ashoka Chakra. Is there any law for Ashoka Chakra also ?
So obviously the Emblem of India can't be used in "Challenge Coins" or whatever.

Edit: Also this means Utubekhiladi is breaking the law. :)

For the card or challenge coin.
We can combine weaponry and national symbols as it is "Defence" + "India" forum.
Will post some in a day or two.
For punch line / slogan we can also look into the war cries and motto of various Regiments etc

Virendra

well said Sir - i may i say that is what i meant without having delineated it in the breadth of terminology that you are talented with

indeed - a separate group of specialist forums ( fora ) without detracting from the basic purpose of the present one

i do hope however that in the hustle and bustle of the daily demands of this present forum that we will still have the capacity to develop the other and not be so mentally exhausted as to keep putting it off indefinitely

Yes, a card is good. Though, if we want to make DFI an attractive place for defence folks to jump in, we're going to need to first develop a proper defence section with defence professionals discussing possible strategies and doctrines with what we have. We have already got some excellent folks in the defence sections discussing in-depth about various weapons. Now, all that is needed is to channel this discussion into future conflict scenarios that India may find itself in and grill the products of the various salesman (;)) on this forum to Indian conditions and the threats they face from their adversaries. We need to build up a strong counter-argument team discussing vigorously from the non-Indian perspective against India. This way, not only does it bare out our flaws but also build up a conducive environment for other defence folks to jump into the fray with what they know. Make it an exclusive area and bar all the non-defence members from posting in such a section. This way, you will have many defence folks who will not only drop in but stay for the long run.

Just my 2 cents.

I posted my thoughts before I even read this, and you seem to have beat me to it. You have articulated it much better than me.

What i feel is that to make it truly something interesting and to increase the number of visitors to the site we need bumper stickers something with intriguing stuff by our members like OOE's famous" the Chinese will fight India to the last Pakistani" or something blase like mine" In order to understand a country understand it's history". These will be publicly visible like the Team-bhp stickers and could make a huge impact. I love the idea of cards as well.

What about advertising DFI in tv channels? Especially during cricket matches.:D

That will make DFI into world most popular forum. You can bet.;)
