The pakistani army stands in the way of peace between our countries. They have a notoriety of coups and putting civilian leadership in the gallows. You may have heard the saying for pakistan, " a lot of countries have an army, but pakistan's army has a country".

To stay relavant, they need an issue, and that issue is Kashmir, if it settled then their army looses power and relevance.
Army is there because of the ideology. Everything flows from ideology. Army is only the enforcer.

That is so, but @Illusive is right, take away Kashmir, then the Pak Army loses the upper hand and only the 'Two Nation' ideology remains. And that is political.

Let us rewind a bit.

When Pakistan became a country, the 'sons of the soil' i.e. non Mohajirs, were basically military men, jagirdars, feudal landlords, bonded labour and mostly uneducated.

The Mohajirs who emigrated from India were the educated lot, bureaucrats, legal eagles, commercial satraps and so on. They took over the reins of running Pakistan.

This eliminated the 'sons of the soil' from the importance in building the new Nation and so they took the mojajirs as usurpers. The Mohajirs who were rootless cleverly highlighted Urdu as the language of the Muslim (it was their language) and Islam as the sole raison d'etre for Pakistan and none could challenge that.

The 'sons of the soil' were thus cleverly displaced.

However, Kashmir came as a boon to the 'sons of the soil' since the Army was basically their stock.

They have been using this lever from them and ever since to extract their pound of flesh in all ways.

Now, if Kashmir is no longer there, what could be the bone of contention beyond political and historical?
