By Night Vision what is meant is dedicated NV/Thermal slaved with FCS of the tank..

IR searchlights are available on all tanks in IA..

Seriously, were IA tanks ever equipped with IR searchlight like M60A1?

It uses just the chasis, no fire control codes need to be changed for that. Russians have refused to give us codes for changing the ballastic computers on T-90 for Indian made and Israeli made shells. My info is never wrong SIR.

sorry sir i thought you posted when i posted this , i got confused

these 1600 tanks should be replaced by Arjun Mk-2. We can used these 1600 T72 for various roles like for mounting Akash missile, un manned tank, unmanned anti tank vehicle etc, even for mounting 105 mm or other heavy caliber gun.

yeah they didnt share T90 fire control computer's code.

During tank EX development, Russian denied modifications on existing T-72M1 chassis which cause the end of the project..

when successive batches of T 90 were ordered , we could have demanded the codes .. right

then why are we still placing follow on orders..

in case we didnt ask for the codes in the initial contract, do we have live forever like that, even though follow on contract is ordered ?

During a mid-2011 press release, India defence spokesman stated that 250 vehicles had so far been upgraded to the CI Ajeya.
During the time of the press release, further field trials, with the help of a team of Russian scientists, were being conducted at the Jaisalmer's Lathi Field Firing Range on a T-72. No details of what was being tested were given. The Indian T-72 Ajeya Tank

I have the same feeling. I thought some around 700 tanks are upgraded. But link states the defence spokesman !

For that to happen the first thing that must be done is to redesign the doctrine and tactics of armored warfare.The current tank tactics are reminiscent of soviet tactics of swarming NATO with superior numbers,the crew was dispensable.
the same methods wont be economical for a 55-60 ton behemoth. Actually it is suprising that the army chose the western method for tanks while they themselves advocated soviet light tank warfare...baffling indeed

Indian Doctrine is custom design and flexible as per need, Its wrong assumption that it based on soviet philosophy..
