BERLIN--German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble expects a budget surplus this year of around 5 billion euros ($5.64 billion) or more, according to a report in Germany's weekly news magazine Der Spiegel that was released on Saturday.
The magazine cites anonymous government experts who confirm that the result for 2015 is expected to outpace the government's previous forecast of a balanced budget. Germany's longer-term financial outlook calls for a balanced budget each year through 2019.
Higher tax revenue and fees from the auction of mobile communications frequency are driving federal revenue higher and leading to a better-than-expected federal budget surplus, the magazine said.
