British Ambassador Urges Japan to Admit Historical Wrongs: Report

British ambassador to Japan Tim Hitchens urged the country to admit historical mistakes and create better environment for improving ties with neighboring countries, local media reported on Monday.

Hitchens told a conference hosted by the Research Institute of Japan that the British government "would be worried by actions which heightened regional instability."0 The ambassador indirectly asked Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe not to visit the war-related Yasukuni Shrine again, Japan's Jiji Press reported.

When talking about Japan's historical problem, the British diplomat said the best way for a nation to correct historical mistakes is to admit its own errors.

Hitchens also stressed the importance of holding meetings of Asian leaders, as well as increasing private sector exchanges.

Even if Japan cannot build perfect relations with its neighbors right away, the country should make preparations for a good opportunity in the future, Hitchens said, calling for mechanisms to nurture trust between Japan and its neighbors.

Abe visited the Yasukuni Shrine that honors 14 Class-A convicted war criminals along with Japan's war dead on Dec. 26 last year. It is the first time in seven years that a sitting Japanese prime minister visited the controversial shrine.

The move triggered strong criticism from neighboring countries that suffered tremendously under Japan's brutal aggression and colonial rule during the first half of the 20th century.

LMAO britain and historical wrongs?
Japan should encourage britain to admit mistakes around the world like Jallainwalla bagh massacre (some people were demanding for an apology, not sure if it came), that will promptly shut them up and make them move on to other matters :D

Country flag
Japanese did lot of wrong things to the people of china during the second world war for sure, But very less compared to what British did to the world in the name of colonialism.

Yakushuni shrine is a symbol of the whole of japanese martyrs during world war 2 not the only ones who took part in the invasion of china.

We know what Brits have done to China in the past, and we also know Japan just is a tool made by Brits to contain China and Russia in the past.

But, we are living in present but not past.

Now, we need more countries "approve" us to attack Japan, to eliminate the main ally of USA in Asia.

(Just like how they "approve" Japan to attack China at the past.)

Mighty china needs approval from other countries to attack Japan? What are you saying comrade?

BTW, which countries have already approved the attack on Japan so far? Your Sexier than Aphrodite friend Pakistan or your rogue proxy NKorea or both?

Also, by any chance are you awaiting for an approval from India as well? :sarcastic:

well, mighty USA used something called freedom or democracy to let countries "approve" it attack small countries.

We need as much as possible countries to "approve" to make things more legally, but not asking for permission .

Comrade, what does that mean?

Are you suggesting that, Japanese are not Asians but they are outsiders? with this rationale of yours, you are going to gather support and approval from other asian countries to attack Japan? :fp:

At first British should acknowledge their colonial crimes before they give lecture others.

BTW China can also apologize for their crimes in Tibet if Chinese are too much concerned about Humanity. China attacks and kills people Chinese dont acknowledge these, but when Chinese themselves are attacked they cry about humanity.

Hun Chinese are Genetically imperialists.

China enslaved Vietnam for nearly 1000 Years.
