QUETTA: Nawabzada Jamil Bugti, the eldest son of the late Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti, on Tuesday said the Baloch were not angry but fed up with the present state of affairs.
Talking to media at his Bugti Bulak residence in Mian Gundi, he said the establishment did not want a peaceful solution of Balochistan issue and was still seeking a military solution. "There is only one solution to Balochistan issue which is to conduct a referendum under the supervision of the United Nations (UN) to acquire the consent of the Baloch."
Bugti said if the establishment did not change its behaviour towards Balochistan "the apologies of any Raja or Mahraja would prove to be futile". Expressing disappointment in the progress of the Nawab Akbar Bugti case, he said no positive results were expected even if the government took another six years in investigation as they had decided not to arrest or punish the culprits.
He said PPP had still not arrested Benazir Bhutto's killers and questioned how the Baloch could trust them. "The leaders come in power through deals and we do not expect justice being done," he added. Bugti said that a military operation was still going on in Balochistan, including in his home district, Dera Bugti.
"If there is reality in the statements of the government that no operation is going on in Balochistan, a media team should be dispatched to visit the area and meet the people freely," he suggested. He said the establishment did not want a peaceful solution to the Balochistan problem and there was no solution in the parliamentary system which was a "fraud".
"Had the parliamentary system been effective in Pakistan, the Awami League's mandate would have been accepted in Bengal (former East Pakistan), but the establishment did not recognise their mandate and forced them out of Pakistan for being the majority," he said. He added that the Baloch were fed up of the apologies by Rajas and Mahrajas and did not trust any leaders in the country.
