QUETTA: A complete shutter-down strike was observed in Nasirabad and Sibi division against the target killing of Balochistan Republican Party (BRP) chief Brahamdagh Bugti's sister and niece in Karachi on Monday.
Life came to a halt in more than a dozen townships and cities of the province, while people condemned the brutal killing of women and children.
The Balochistan Assembly also passed a resolution, condemning the killing of fellow lawmaker Nawabzada Bakhtiar Khan Domki's wife and daughter, and demanded the provincial government to approach the Sindh government and unearth the culprits behind the heinous crime. Strike was observed in Sibbi, Shoran, Dhaddar, Mach, Dera Allahyar, Usta Muhammad, Bakhtiarabad, Lehri, Sohbatpur, Nasirabad and Ghandawa to protest against the killings of the granddaughter and great-granddaughter of Nawab Akbar Bugti. According to the Baloch Republican Party, the victims had recently sought asylum in Switzerland. The government and its agencies had been chasing Brahamdagh Bugti in Afghanistan, India and Switzerland, the party recalled.
Members of the Balochistan Assembly criticised the Sindh Police, especially the Karachi Police, for terming the incident a case of tribal feud or target killing and demanded a high-level inquiry to unearth the culprits.
Speaker Aslam Bhootani presided over the session on Tuesday. PML-N provincial chief Sardar Sanaullah Zehri took to the floor on a point of order and said it was inhumane that even females were not being spared. "The Sindh government must properly investigate the murders instead of terming this incident targeted killing or tribal feud."
Lawmakers Sheikh Jaffar Mandokhel of PML-Q, Maulvi Sarwar Musakhel, Sardar Aslam Bizenjo, Mir Shahnwaz Marri, Abdul Khaliq Bashar Dost, Provincial Finance Minister Mir Asim Kurd and others strongly condemned the incident and said the Sindh government had failed to protect the lives of innocent people.
"Earlier, provincial minister Rustam Jamali was shot dead in Karachi and police failed to arrest the culprits. The Sindh government must tell why the people of Balochistan are being ruthlessly killed in Karachi," Abdul Khaliq Bashardost said.
Sheikh Jaffar Mandokhel tabled the resolution in which he lamented that the police had termed the incident a case of personal enmity without any investigation. The Balochistan Assembly, through the resolution, demanded that the Balochistan government approach the Sindh government for proper investigation.
