Yup ... we missed the industrial revolution..
There are thousand of reasons including invasions and colonization but the fact remains India missed a very "hard" and "fundamental" stage in human development.
Anyway I hope your govt. loosens that pension fund you have ... else it will contract due to inflation.
Pension funds are usually invested in high return projects which can beat inflation. Half of the Nordic pension funds bore the brunt in the last US recession because they were chasing high returns!

Last year the yield was 7,5%, they grow more than ever. Actually twice as much as we took government loan.

To be honest, I feel bad to disagree with you guys, or represent the "west" here after Ray's passing. We all have our strong and weak points and comparing is not always necessary.

You missed out the industrial revolution, because coal was too expensive to ship...unlike in Europe. You are only hitchhikers in the modern economy. We cant change the past or know the future, so lets enjoy this day. Maybe new economic revolution will start from India. Or maybe somewhere else.
The Industrial Revolution happened in Britain during 1775–1850 .......

It is not a coincidence that the Industrial Revolution began less than 20 years after the British conquest of east India. .........

Thus the Industrial Revolution was built on the grave of the Indian economy. The Industrial Revolution was made in Britain, but it was funded by India (against her will).

The Industrial Revolution gave birth to the Industrial Age, or theModern Age. Thus, though the Modern Age was inaugurated in Britain, the real driving force behind it was India.

That was the role of India in the Industrial Revolution (and consequently, the birth of the Modern Age).

http://indiantake.blogspot.in/2010/11/india-role-in-industrial-revolution.html

Industrail revolution is such a phenomenon that it would have occurred in India.... India's industrial revolution was thwarted by the imperialist and colonial Brits for 250 years.... for their industrail revolution. And you call that hitch hike ??:nono:

IF UK WAS SUCH A GREAT FORCE OF INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION, THEN WHAT IS HAPPENING TODYA !!

You need to freshen up your knowledge about India. British did not have to import coal from Europe to establish such a wide and huge network of Railways in India based on steam engines which needed coal and was abundant in India.

You are only hitchhikers in the modern economy.
Perhaps you need to be reminded that Textile formed the first vehicle and base of the industrial revolution. At the time East India Company captured portions of India their main trade with home - England was Calico - the Indian Textile which was much superior than could be found any where in Europe. That industry was destroyed by the Brits.
The quality of Indian iron was also far superior...

At home the Brits introduced a series of Calico regulations to prevent Indian Textiles in their markets, destroyed Indian industry and then made India largest supplier of raw cotton and largest receiver of finished cotton:prison: :

Hitch-hiking you said ? Who hitch-hiked whom ?:santa:

We cant change the past or know the future, so lets enjoy this day.
History says otherwise !!:crying:

Maybe new economic revolution will start from India. Or maybe somewhere else.
That is what angloshpere would not like:nono:

Finland was the largest manufacturer of tar in the 18th to 19th century. Steel ships brought that to an end. We are not crying after that nor blaming somebody...LOL, you guys are great

Maybe make in india will change this? There is little innovation / research coming
from Asia ; japan maybe the only exception. Asia is just mass production whether
it is products or services. Out of the box thinking is not encouraged or pursued.
This is why most of the progress in science and technology comes from the west.
But I will say thorium reactors /fast breeder reactors are a groundbreaking exception.

India is yet to realise the meaning and implications of the fourth revolution (as defined by Tofflers)

In India we have the second, third and attempts at fourth revolution running together .. concurrently and in parallel..

Our strenghts in IT, Pharma, Biodiversity, education, and Science are neither being garnered nor being promoted....

The fourth revolution is the era of patents. IPR, technology and innovation.... what is happening there ??

Didn't read all the replies.

But isn't India already in the anglospehere.

We use English, copied the same form of government.
Even our initial leaders were handpicked by the brits, and one clan continued to rule the country for decades.
All the while real leaders like Bose went missing.

Sir, it is very interesting idea, about different phases of revolution.

Could you please provide a source, so that I can learn more about it.

Thank You

I much agree with Bhadra about the past, though what of the future?

Surely a partnership based upon the anglosphere, and particularly with a newly energised brexit Britain would be more mutually beneficial than any other possible partnership?

India craves a voice on the world stage, particularly in the security Council. It also craves security and technology.

Britain offers these.

The UK craves access to growing markets, manpower and a new focus.

If India offered these things then maybe we could make the latter part of the twenty first century one that we write rather than read about.
