Embed PDF Files within the posts

We are now introducing new feature to embed pdf files within the post. All you need to do is, upload your pdf file on http://www.scribd.com/ site. Once you have done, go to the file location url. You will then see on top something like this

Click on "Embed"

And you will get something like this.

Click on Flash. And the Click on "Copy" button. Once you copied, paste it on a clipboard or text file or in the post here. It will contain some text like below. Please take only the highlighted (in red) portion called "document id" below and paste it between scribd tags below

[noparse][scribd]your scribd document id[/scribd][/noparse]

<a title="View Infographic: Joining Forces Announces 125k Veteran and Military Spouse Hire on Scribd" href="http://www.scribd.com/doc/103623009/Infographic-Joining-Forces-Announces-125k-Veteran-and-Military-Spouse-Hire" style="margin: 12px auto 6px auto; font-family: Helvetica,Arial,Sans-serif; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; font-size: 14px; line-height: normal; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; -x-system-font: none; display: block; text-decoration: underline;">Infographic: Joining Forces Announces 125k Veteran and Military Spouse Hire</a> <object id="doc_82020" name="doc_82020" height="600" width="100%" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="http://d1.scribdassets.com/ScribdViewer.swf" style="outline:none;" > <param name="movie" value="http://d1.scribdassets.com/ScribdViewer.swf"> <param name="wmode" value="opaque"> <param name="bgcolor" value="#ffffff"> <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"> <param name="FlashVars" value="document_id=103623009&access_key=key-nfx99uj0hgz45mvkem2&page=1&viewMode=scroll"> <embed id="doc_82020" name="doc_82020" src="http://d1.scribdassets.com/ScribdViewer.swf?document_id=103623009&access_key=key-nfx99uj0hgz45mvkem2&page=1&viewMode=scroll" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" height="600" width="100%" wmode="opaque" bgcolor="#ffffff"></embed> </object>

Finally you get something like following two posts. Its long but its fruitful for others to just read the pdf files on the forum itself.

Re: Embed PDF Files within the posts

Embed PDF Files from other sites.

Another alternative to scribd is to directly embed pdf files on other sites or pdf hosting sites like dropbox.com

Post the pdf link between the pdf tags.

[noparse][pdf]your pdf link here[/pdf][/noparse]

Here is an example of this

Google Maps on DFI

Yet another new feature on DFI for you guys. Now, you can embed google maps within the posts. This is useful when you are trying to show a place or a map with a particular route. Also good to illustrate air strips, nuclear bases, sea ports etc etc

How to use

Example 1: For a place like India gate - [noparse][map]India Gate, New Delhi[/map][/noparse]

[map]India Gate, New Delhi[/map]

Example 2: For a route like Karachi to Kabul - [noparse][map] Karachi, Pakistan to Kabul, Afghanistan[/map][/noparse]

[map]Karachi, Pakistan to Kabul, Afghanistan[/map]

Google Spreadsheets on DFI

Now, you can use embed google spreadsheet to illustrate certain data that you couldn't do earlier through pdf files, images etc.

To do this, upload your spreadsheet with data or open a new spreadsheet and paste data at Google Docs (you need a google or gmail account to do this). Once you do this, go to "File" tab and click "Publish to the Web" which then generates a link like this

http://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0AinOJJHQys6bdHBsUW1hQ3pYbEQ3d1FBUjlrUWwzSGc&single=true&gid=0&output=html
Then paste the bold red highlighted portion between gs tags like below

[noparse][gs]0AinOJJHQys6bdHBsUW1hQ3pYbEQ3d1FBUjlrUWwzSGc[/gs][/noparse]

This is what you will see..

[gs]0AinOJJHQys6bdHBsUW1hQ3pYbEQ3d1FBUjlrUWwzSGc[/gs]

Spoiler Tags

Ever wanted to hide spoilers at the end of telling a story or a joke or a NSFW picture?. Well, here is your chance to do that from now on. Use spiler tags to hide text or pictures.

Usage: [noparse]
your text here or your image with images tags here or your video with video tags here
[/noparse]

Examples:

:taunt1: :taunt:

Enjoy!!!!!

New Feature - Tagging and Post Quote Notifications

Tagging - Similar to twitter, you can "tag" a user by writing @ followed by username. @Kunal Biswas for example. This way a user will get a notification with a link to that post.

Useful for sharing information to a group of like-minded individuals

Post Quote
- self explanatory. You get a notification (and a link) when someone quotes your post

Tweet Embedding

How to use?

Find the twitter id - Go to the tweet you are interested in and click on "Embed Tweet" like this

This wil give rise to a pop-up where you have to find the "twitter tweet id" like this

Copy the "twitter tweet id" and post it between [tweet] tags like below

[noparse][tweet]twitter id[/tweet][/noparse]

This will give rise to Embedded Tweet like this

[tweet]312562576091381761[/tweet]

I made a video as to how to follow your favourite posters and see what all they posted.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWVS0ifvqEc

Once you follow a poster and choose the notification type (e-mail or Private Message), you will get the notifications when the followed poster posts a post or thread.

I suggest users to choose the 'e-mail' notification type rather than 'Private Message' because there is a limit to most users on the number of PMs you can receive. And you have to keep deleting the PMs if you want to receive the notifications.

E-mail notifications will be sent to the registered e-mail.

Let me know if you have any doubts.
