Re: Warship-grade steel from SAIL for new aircraft carrier

@Decklander Sir, I am one of those members, But never dismiss that it is a excellent DMR for sharpshooters..

Lots of members here have posted shit about this gun, but ask the ones who have used them, we swear by 7.62 SLR.

All about our small arms procurement. F-Insas rifle/carbine will probably never see the light of the day. The only hope (as I see it) for ARDE's rifle is with the cancellation/delay of these tenders.

SMALL ARMS: India In Small Arms Market
Posted on 01 June 2013 by admin

The country is a much sought after purchaser of small arms from the international bazaar, who needs to access the best of technology money can buy
Rahul Bedi
Contenders for the CQB carbine contract feature Israel Weapon Industries (IWIs) Galil carbine, Baretta of Italy's ARX-160 and USA's Colt and Sig Sauer's M4 and SG516 patrol rifle's respectively. Military sources said one of these four carbines is likely to be down-selected by the year-end and a contract inked thereafter.
The deal includes a transfer of technology (ToT) to the state-run Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) to locally build 380,000-400,000 carbines. Each weapon is expected to weigh less than 3kg and be capable of firing 600 rounds per minute to a minimum range of 200m in extreme cold and hot climates. The short-listed carbine will also be equipped with Picatinny rail-mounted reflex and passive night sights, visible and invisible laser spot designators and multi-purpose detachable bayonets.
Competing for the AR contract are Baretta's ARX-160, Colt's Combat Rifle, Czeca of the Czech Republic's CZ805 model, IWI's ACE1 and Sig Sauer's SIG 570MBR. The November 2011 tender for the AR's requires the weapon system to weigh no more than 3.6kg, fire both 5.56x45mm rounds-including the Indian OFB's SS109-and 7.62mmx39mm projectiles with a barrel and magazine switch for employment in a stand-alone defensive or suppressive fire role. Fitted with Picatiny Rail-mounted reflex sights the ARs are also required to be equipped with day scopes and 40mm low- velocity under barrel grenade launchers (UBGLs).
Lengthy article, even though it's from Rahul Bedi, a DDM in my book, it contains info about a lot of procurement. Read more:-

Let me tell you something even more interesting which can be confirmed by even @Ray sir, If you block the gas chamber of 7.62SLR which we can by rotating the gas selector, the gun becomes a sniper rifle with a flat trajectory of nearly 700 yds. Only thing is that recoil increases. Lots of members here have posted shit about this gun, but ask the ones who have used them, we swear by 7.62 SLR.

@Ray SIr, @Twinblade & @pmaitra, Just mention to see the quality of firearm changed alot ..

Kunal, those are customised rifles, customised by the owners at their own expense. In reality the IOF 30-06 has a very bad reputation, with most buyers preferring IOF .315 and IOF .22 to 30-06. 30-06 comes with a 3 round magazine and 5 round magazine is sold separately but the quality is so questionable that the magazines being delivered with the gun are the only ones that fit. If you take out the magazine from another IOF 30-06, it might not fit. Sometimes the magazine simply falls out.

BTW, what is that red round for?
Laser bore sighter maybe ?

.315 and .22 are older models, their quality is more or less consistent. It seems you are right, the first gun is indeed a stock model.
@pmaitra, it's a simple snap cap :)

The new light weight OFB revolver for female safety. It weighs only 500gms named after Nirbhaya.
this gun was made from lighter titanium alloy. Why cant OFB make better light weight INSAS and other sister rifles from the same alloy?

Lighter rifles are the need of the day.
