I wondered about one thing.

Why not manufacture both of these? I mean, both can have more or less a degree of commonality in terms o components, and both can be usefull, the tracked to be in Armor Brigades, and the wheeled forming the bulk of mechanized infantry and overall medium component?

Also both can be base for family of vehicle, both tracked and wheeled.

In a someway it reminds me a concept that is desired and hopefully will be successfull in Polish Army, where there will be wheeled Rosomak and tracked Anders.

If BMP-3 is accepted by MoD, then its good bye FICV. I hope MoD will resist the Russian pressure. They are not offering ToT for T90 but they are offering full ToT for FICV which only goes to say that all these foreign manufacturers offer complete ToT when our indigenous systems mature because they want to kill the programmes so that they can make more money.

Maybe it and those other vehicles would sell in the States for civilian use. Just sayin'.

They would have to take the MG off the VECTRA first, of course.

FICV Announcement Expected
In April, Says Hopeful Textron

As India prepares to announce the winner of the $10 billion FICV project sometime this year, Textron is in talks with Ashok Leyland (ALL), Larsen & Toubro (L&T), Bharat Forge, Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) to supply the avionics and other sub systems for the vehicle. "We are in discussion with the Indian industry to come on as partner for the project which is likely to take place in April. We will be supplying the avionics and basically supplying the complete system," Inderjit Sial, President & Managing Director, Textron told defenseworld.net at Aero India 2013. The Indian MOD is expected to shortlist two vendors for Futuristic Infantry Combat Vehicles (FICVs) based on technical and commercial criteria under the 'buy & make' category. The FICV will be amphibious and is expected to weigh in at around 22 tonnes. Operated by a three man crew, the vehicle will also carry a seven man team and supplies. Reports suggest half of the FICV will be wheeled, half tracked. Meanwhile, Textron is also competing to win an UCAV tender issued by the MoD earlier in 2010. The newly inducted UCAVs will be used by the Indian Air Force to fight terrorists in northern Jammu and Kashmir bordering Pakistan. They are also expected to be reusable and operate like combat fighter aircraft.

Future Indian ICV Project » Indian Defence Review

The Future Infantry Combat Vehicle (FICV), intended to replace the Indian Army's 2,600 BMP-2 vehicles at an estimated cost of Rs 50,000 crore, slated to be India's biggest-ever indigenous project, faces an uncertain future. The Ministry of Defence (MoD) is contemplating scrapping the current tender and restarting anew. This comes after sitting for two years on the FICV proposals from three private sector consortia and one public sector entity. In early 2010, the MoD invited Tata Motors, the Mahindra Group, Larsen & Toubro and the Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) to submit proposals to develop an FICV. However, the Acquisitions Wing of the MoD wishes to cancel and refloat the tender as in the first place, it did not define the criteria by which the winners would be selected. Cancellation of the tender at this stage and re-tendering would mean further delay as also would result a serious loss of credibility apart from heavy financial loss to the bidders who have participated in the tender. India's private sector defence industry is not enthused by this development.

This FICV is a drama and the way i see is to discourage private sector from taking any initiative..

MOD is going to spend 3000 cores to upgrade out dated BMP-2..

Windy 505 can be very capable on Ladakh Plateau terrain.

HYDERABAD: It has an innocuous name, Windy-505. In fact it is the Indian Army's first-ever patented product - a high-mobility, fast-attack vehicle capable of moving in rugged terrain carrying surveillance equipment and armament.

The state-of-the-art vehicle equipped with a medium missile gun and Global Positioning System is a unique innovation of the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) and was unveiled last week on the occasion of the eighth Corps Reunion of the EME in Secunderabad.

"This vehicle has received widespread acclaim for its low silhouette and high combat power," says EME Director-General Lt-General V.K. Dhir. The design took two years of inhouse R&D trials and Windy costs Rs.8 lakh.

About 20 vehicles will be made initially as a part of the strategy to introduce advanced technology weapon systems to sustain the army's combat edge.

Tata Leads Development of Indian Infantry Combat Vehicle

India's Tata Motors, along with Lockheed Martin and General Dynamics, have developed an infantry combat vehicle that could compete for India's Future Infantry Combat Vehicle (FICV) if the program is relaunched.

A Tata Motors executive said the Wheeled Armoured Platform (WHAP), based on a vehicle developed by state-owned Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), fits Army requirements.

Under the FICV program, which has been on the shelf for more than three years, 2,600 combat vehicles would replace about 1,400 Russian BMP vehicles at a cost of more than $10 billion. The project would be in the Make India category, meaning only domestic companies can serve as prime contractor.

While FICV has been on hold, the Army still wants to buy some kind of combat vehicle.

For WHAP, Lockheed and GD serve as technology partners. DRDO developed the basic frame of the vehicle, officials said, while Tata built the transmission, gear box and integrated other systems.

Under FICV, the plan was for the shortlisted company or consortium to develop its own prototype while the government funded about 80 percent of the cost. Thereafter, production would be done in India by the winner.

India last year rejected a Russian proposal to provide its advanced BMP-3 infantry combat vehicle along with technology transfer. Russia's offer was conditional on India putting aside the indigenous FICV project to replace the BMP-1 and BMP-2 vehicles.

The WHAP prototype is integrated with a Raytheon-Lockheed Javelin anti-tank guided missile system, fitted with a 12.7mm machine gun made by General Dynamics and is also mounted with a Norwegian-built Kongsberg medium-caliber remote turret.

The US has already offered technology transfer on the Javelin and the proposal is still under consideration by the Defence Ministry, according to an MoD source.

The Tata Motors vehicle weighs 22.5 tons and is powered by a 600 horsepower engine. Both wheeled and tracked forms of the amphibious vehicle are being developed.

An Army official said the WHAP is close to the FICV's specifications of weighing 20 tons and having a 25:1 ratio of horsepower per ton. WHAP also is amphibious, as required under FICV.

The FICV project was approved in 2009, and since then, India's Mahindra Defence Systems has tied up with BAE and Larsen & Toubro is working on overseas partnerships. Tata Motors had initially joined Rheinmetall but had to abandon the partnership after the company was blacklisted on charges of alleged corruption. State-owned Ordnance Factories Board is also in the race.
