turkey being one of most influential and developed country in a war torn region is a important country to be observed.
it has a major say in the happenings in this region and it is also a NATO member.however in the last years it has been more active in influencing its neighbours and other activities then ever before.:frusty: the violence and unstability in middle east is slowly reaching turkey and other powerful mights in middle east ,,but the turkey would be the most affected.
its signs are already popping up with unrest in wester turkey with its kurdish population who are demanding seperate republic.
turkey has been funding isis and other radical groups in syria and iraq so has to supress the kurdish rise in the region which are friendly to USA and is threat turkey national interest. but now isis being underestimated by everyone is on fore-front of western turkey and is a threat to it ....""" the snake the turkey fed is ready to poison it""":p now turkey is at a cross-road because if it defeats isis it will help kurdish forces gain the regions in syria border with turkey and the strategic town of kobani ,which it will use to control kurdish independence movement inside turkey.:scared1:
lets see what happens next. :)

Turkey is a great example of a secular Muslim country. Wish middle east would develop more to that direction. Fools hope, I know.

Turkey was a great example of a secular Muslim country.
Corrected that for you.

I once had a teacher who lived in turkey for almost a year. He said Turkey in terms of state's policies was as secular as India. Nobody cared what religion you follow because it used to be personal matter not the state matter, not anymore.

Also, Turkey is also probably the only NATO member who repeatedly refuses to pull one's weight.

USA greatly appreciates it in a strategic way. It has asked and is still asking turkey to let them set up a base there. But Turkey, like India says no.

Yes you are right but also remember that turkey soil has been used for US nuclear missile launch site during cold war era......so it has been used once before also as a shield ..and the withdrawl of US nuclear missiles came after much heated cuban missile crisis......lets take a look at turkey immediate surrounding in which it has major powerful enemies like Iran and Russia .. in a scenario of major crisis it will not be in control of turkey wheater to allow or not its territory for launching an attack ... so it owes western allies to use its territory as base...

Oh. But I read a news article a few days back when IS militants were heading towards Kobani. US asked Turkey to let them carry out airstrikes from Turkey. They denied.
Contraints must be part of agreement between the two countries, then. Good point.
