The first prototype of Russia's new medium-range air defense system that should replace the S-300 was demonstrated on Wednesday.

The Vityaz system was shown during President Vladimir Putin's visit to a St. Petersburg plant where it is being manufactured by the Almaz-Antei corporation.

The new air-defense system, which will have more advanced radar and a launcher with 16 missiles, compared with only four on the S-300, should enter service next year, Almaz-Antei chief designer Igor Ashurbeili previously told RIA Novosti.

Ok, this is a derivative of S-300 family but it corresponds to what, S-400 or S-500 ? Because it does not look like either of the latter two.

Its a medium range SAM, S-300 have many variants but this system is going to replace specificly S-300PS air defense systems as well as S-125 Pechora (SA-3 Goa) and Buk-M1/2 (SA-11 Gadfly and SA-17 Grizzly) missile systems..

Vityaz components are mounted on 8x8 all-terrain trucks or similar vehicles. The weapon system is designed to engage a wide spectrum of threats at ranges of up to 40 kilometers such as fixed- an rotary-wing aircraft, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), cruise missiles and tactical ballistic missiles. The Vityaz is able to detect and track up to 40 targets simultaneously while engaging eight of them with two missiles per target, It share some technological inputs from S-300 system..

Russia to Unveil New Air Defense System at MAKS-2013​

Russia's Almaz-Antei corporation will showcase for the first time its newest S-350E Vityaz mid-range air defense system at the upcoming MAKS-2013 air show near Moscow, the company said.

The Vityaz, which is expected to replace the outdated S-300 systems, is superior to similar foreign models, according to Almaz-Antei statement released on Friday.

The new Russian system was reportedly shown to President Vladimir Putin during his June 19 visit to a St. Petersburg plant where it is being manufactured by the Almaz-Antei corporation.

The system has been in the works since 2007 and features advanced all-aspect phased array radar, a new mobile command post and a launcher carrying 12 vertical-launch missiles, which will use a variant of the 9M96 active radar homing missile, according to the company.

Almaz-Antey plans to hand over the system to the Russian Defense Ministry for testing before the end of 2013 and start deliveries to the Russian military next year.

The Vityaz will complement the Morfey, the S-400 and the S-500 air defense systems in the future aerospace defense network to engage targets at ranges from five to 400 kilometers, and at altitudes from five meters to near space.

Russian Army to Receive Vityaz Air Defense Systems in 2016​

Russia's Almaz-Antei defense corporation is planning to start deliveries of its newest S-350E Vityaz mid-range air defense system to the Russian army in 2016, the company said Wednesday.

The Vityaz, which is expected to replace the outdated S-300 systems, was showcased for the first time during the recent MAKS-2013 airshow near Moscow.

"We are planning to complete [Vityaz] testing in 2014, [and] start mass production in 2015 and deliveries to the military in 2016," Almaz-Antey general director Vitaly Neskorodov told RIA Novosti.

The system has been in the works since 2007 and features advanced all-aspect phased array radar, a new mobile command post and a launcher capable of carrying 12 vertical-launch missiles planned to be variants of the 9M96 active radar homing missile, according to the company.

The Vityaz will complement the Morfey, the S-400 and the S-500 air defense systems in the future aerospace defense network to engage targets at ranges from five to 400 kilometers, and at altitudes from five meters to near space.

we don't have the Requirement of Vityaz type of SAM in our Arsenal ..we will already making progess of Akash MK2 and Astra Spin off SAM so these two will fill MR SAM req. moreover Russian gets the Vityaz after 2016 So if we need this system we should wait for 2018


we currently stepped on PDV PAD ..these are equal or more capable then S 400 Systems
