PSLV-C56/DS-SAR Mission
The launch of PSLV-C56 carrying DS-SAR satellite, along with 6 co-passengers from the first launch-pad of SDSC-SHAR, Sriharikota is tentatively scheduled towards the end of July 2023.
PSLV-C56 is configured in its core-alone mode, similar to that of C55. It would launched DS-SAR, a 360 kg satellite into a Near-equatorial Orbit (NEO) at 5 degrees inclination and 535 km altitude.
DS-SAR
The DS-SAR satellite is developed under a partnership between DSTA (representing the Government of Singapore) and ST Engineering. Once deployed and operational, it will be used to support the satellite imagery requirements of various agencies within the Government of Singapore. ST Engineering will use it for multi-modal and higher responsiveness imagery and geospatial services for their commercial customers.
DS-SAR carries a Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) payload developed by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI). This allows the DS-SAR to provide for all-weather day and night coverage, and capable of imaging at 1m-resolution at full polarimetry.

The co-passengers are:

  1. VELOX-AM, a 23 kg technology demonstration microsatellite.
  2. ARCADE Atmospheric Coupling and Dynamics Explorer (ARCADE), an experimental satellite
  3. SCOOB-II , a 3U nanosatellite flying a technology demonstrator payload
  4. NuLIoN by NuSpace, an advanced 3U nanosatellite enabling seamless IoT connectivity in both urban & remote locations.
  5. Galassia-2, a 3U nanosatellite that will be orbiting at low earth orbit.
  6. ORB-12 STRIDER , satellite is developed under an International collaboration

From post launch conference:
  • Quite accurate orbits were achieved this time.
  • PS4 will be brought down to a 300 kms orbit so that it decays and falls down into sea faster (to mitigate space debris).
  • Next PSLV mission (XL C57 Aditya L1) scheduled for later in August or early September.
  • A full privately funded and built PSLV will be seen by early next year.
  • TV-P1 for Gaganyaan demonstration under integration.
  • SSLV D3 mission also confirmed (instead of PSLV for XPoSat as was in new earlier?).
  • Next GSLV mission carrying INSAT-3DS confirmed this year.
So, we have +1 PSLV, +1 SSLV and +1 GSLV confirmed scheduling for this year. Copying same to space launch schedule.

Will ISRO push for more launches by encouraging more commercial projects and more missions?

I strongly believe that it is in India's best interests to compete with SpaceX and China on the number of space launches as to avoid the world getting into a duopoly or a tripoly system like we see with respect to commercial aviation - Boeing and Airbus.

That exactly is the new national space policy.
Idea is essentially to develop space industry as a vital economic sector to earn bucks from abroad and USA/China are only long term competing threats for Indian space industry. India needs 50-60 launches minimum per year (even if 80-85% of them are just SSLV) to actually make an impact.

ISRO will keep pushing for more and more launches (existing target kept from 2020 of launching 12+ non SSLV rockets every year) until Indian private space industry can take lead and free ISRO from taking charge of its own launches. They would need ISRO's rockets since their own rockets are decades away from getting international levels of reliability and faith.

All three primary carrier rockets; SSLV, PSLV and LVM3 will be all industry in next 5 years, GSLV meanwhile will disappear in 5 or less launches. Late 2020s will be the peak of Indian space sector growth and 2030s will be science only era of ISRO.

But ISRO must focus on science, technology development, planetary expeditions and human spaceflights.

Now pvt players must take over commercial launches.

🇮🇳PSLV-C56/🇸🇬DS-SAR Mission:

The PS4 stage de-orbiting experiment is successful.

The stage is purposefully manoeuvred to a 295 km x 300 km orbit. It now spends significantly less time in space, reducing its duration from over two decades to less than two months, before re-entering the Earth's atmosphere.

Reduced time in Space = Less risk of debris!

ISRO, 🇮🇳India remains committed to reduced space debris and sustainable use of space for the benefit of all.
