From Metalfor they explained that the idea of the vehicle is that it can do the spraying and fertilization in a robotic way. “It is an unmanned vehicle. It is a “concept”, which tomorrow can be used for planting, currently “there is no other”, the experts explained.

At the end of the sixties, when national car production was emerging, the German engineer Dieter Herber, who lived in Colombia, undertook the creation of the Cacique Tayrona. His motivation was to create a national sports car for the street and competitions, given the difficulty of importing them.

Three friends financed him, one of them Dr. Ignacio Berraquer, son of the founder of the clinic that bears his last name in Bogotá and in whose basement the vehicle in question was assembled. The body, made of fiberglass and inspired by the Ferrari P4, was created and produced in these facilities... from where it came disassembled to be finished in a warehouse in Chía.

The car was mounted on a tubular chassis, and inside, there was a 1.5-liter V4 central engine from the Ford Taunus. According to Herber, cited by Motor, between five and six units of the Cacique Tayrona were produced at prices lower than those of a new Renault 4. Two units survive.

“The Colombian Economic Car” was a project created by a team of independent designers, Industrial Design students from the National University, led by the French industrial designer Dominique Billioté. This last piece of information sheds light on what it was: a Creole and expanded version of the Renault 4.

The project was presented in March 1987. It included an urban version, a hatchback, a family car, a pick-up and a van. Renault-Sofasa provided engines and platforms to the project. A high degree of integration of national parts was expected, which would result in a price 30% lower than the cheapest car at the time, which was... yes, the same Renault 4.

The equipment would include rubber or fiber mats, luxury seats in cordovan or cloth, heating, radio pre-installation, glove compartment, headrest, two rear-view mirrors and two-tone paint. Renault-Sofasa would enter as an investment partner, but things did not happen. To date, it is not known why.

Steed Cargo 1.6 (1992)
The Corcel vehicle plant was a venture by Valle del Cauca industrialist Raúl Grajales, which was unveiled in September 1992 and whose center was the Corcel Cargo 1.6, a very particular cargo vehicle.

Designed by Luis Alfonso Calderón, it was a mix of many things: the cabin of a Mazda B2000, the front axle of a Chevette and the rear axle and suspension of a VW Beetle 1600. From the latter, the engine and box also came. The front was flat, with the lights embedded in the body.

It would compete with the motocars of the time, but according to Motor, the media that reported it at the time, the thing did not go beyond a few prototypes.

It was not one, but several cars, all with three wheels and built by the Yakey firm in Floridablanca, Santander. The first prototype was the Salamandra Lexion, a small electric car that was presented in April 2009. It had a range of 75 kilometers and could be recharged at a 110V household outlet.

The project was led by businessman William Mercay, who promoted its development with young technicians who graduated from the Sena. And since at that time electric mobility did not exist in Colombia, gasoline versions with a 225 c.c. engine were also planned. and 14 hp; or hybrids, gasoline and… hydrogen!

From the first model, a wide range of vehicles emerged: Scorpion Motocarro, Tri0 Sport (short), Tri0 (long) and Ultra. The latter had an electric version with 90 km of autonomy. In 2011 prices ranged from $12.8 to $68 million, about 22 to 128 million current pesos. The project continued for a couple of years, but was not continued.

Eolo Supercargo (2020)
In development since the pandemic, the Eolo Supercargo is a project promoted by Eolo Motors, a firm that was born in 2009 under the leadership of mechanical engineer Javier Roldán, in Bogotá. By definition, it is an electric cargo quadricycle, intended for parcel delivery firms and created from scratch with Colombian raw materials.

Its design, purely utilitarian, is designed with practicality and economy in mind. It can move a little more than 300 kg of cargo, in a hold with 1,700 liters of capacity. It is powered by two electric motors, one on each front wheel, powered by a 72V LFP battery. The autonomy of the prototype is between 70 and 108 kilometers, depending on the charge level.

Although the intention is to complete its production and sale, it has suffered multiple legal and bureaucratic obstacles. A few days ago, he made the news when he was detained at a traffic checkpoint for not having a registration plate, transit license or import manifest, which are not issued due to his local creation. For this reason, Roldán is fighting a tough legal battle to recover it.

MUB 1Q (2020)
It is also an electric cargo quadricycle, but created by the company Mubility based in Sabaneta, Antioquia. Its leaders are David Sierra, Pablo Gaviria and Mauricio Toro, specialists in developing products based on high precision and high engineering technologies.

This vehicle, already approved by the Ministry of Transport and of which 15 units have been produced, has a load capacity of around 700 kg, open cabin (without doors), and double or single cabin versions. In addition, it pulls up to a ton. It is recharged at 110 or 220V outlets for four hours, obtaining an estimated range of 50 kilometers.

Its creators define it as a vehicle “designed for use and abuse”, adaptable for different uses such as tents, refrigerators and benches, among others. It incorporates IoT sensors that transmit data on the use and operation of each vehicle, route maps, maintenance, routes and other data.

In December 2022, the solar car created by engineer Dairo Polo Fruto, a Sena instructor and expert in solar energy, was discovered, who built it with his family in the patio of his house in Palmar de Varela, Atlántico. It looks like a tubular-body golf cart, with a huge solar panel on the roof.

At that time, Polo told El Tiempo that it was neither the first nor the only solar car created in Colombia, but it was the first in the Colombian Caribbean. He projected it as a solution for local and inter-municipal public transportation, totally environmentally friendly as it is powered only by solar rays.

It weighs 200 kilos and its cell has more than 500V, which powers a 24V battery and a 10 hp electric motor. The top speed is 40 km/h. Today, the vehicle continues in testing.

Mexico City. – Fernando Ocaña, a car designer with experience in European companies such as Volvo, Saab, Opel and McLaren, has returned to Mexico with an innovative minicar prototype. Inspired by his work in Europe, Ocaña has devised this proposal to address the challenges of electromobility and the reduction of polluting emissions in Mexico.

According to information from Forbes Mexico, the VEU light-cab, as the Mexican minicar designed by Ocaña is known, has a surprisingly low weight of 420 kilograms, in marked contrast to vehicles like Tesla, which can exceed 2 tons. This reduced weight is key to reducing emissions during manufacturing.

A notable feature of this prototype is its use of a 3 kilowatt-hour battery, compared to the 100 kilowatt-hour batteries of a Tesla, which represents a significant reduction in the amount of lithium needed for the electrification of mobility. .

In addition to its efficiency and reduced weight, the VEU light-cab features a modular design, which facilitates the rapid replacement of parts without requiring the constant manufacturing of complete new vehicles, thus contributing to the reduction of polluting emissions.

Submarine “Tonelero” (S42) will be named and launched into the sea next Wednesday (27), in Itaguaí, Rio de Janeiro. The First Lady, Janja Lula da Silva, will be the godmother at the baptism of the new Brazilian Navy (MB) submarine, which will contribute to the defense of the Homeland and the Blue Amazon.

The event will mark the readiness of the construction process of the third Conventional Submarine with Diesel-Electric Propulsion (S-BR), built entirely in Brazil, within the scope of the Submarine Development Program (PROSUB). There is an expectation that the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, will be present at the Launching Ceremony, accompanied by the President of France, Emmanuel Jean-Michel Frédéric Macron.

PROSUB has accumulated several benefits for the country since its creation, such as: generating more than 60 thousand direct and indirect jobs; exchange with 23 universities; and around 700 companies involved.

Bridesmaids in the naval tradition

Bombardier’s flagship Global 7500 Jet has strong ties with Mexico. The aft fuselage of this luxurious jet is entirely manufactured at the Bombardier’s Queretaro facility.

“From Queretaro we send (to Canada) the entire aft fuselage, which is relatively a third of the plane with all the integrated systems. We are also making all the harnesses on that plane,” explained the company.

The Global 7500 is a milestone for Bombardier in Mexico because the operation made in Queretaro was specifically designed to be produced in the country.
