this is so damn heartening that shipbuilding-as decided earlier that it will stop after current projects are completed, the new plans look forward to continue even after present shivalik class ship.
may be by the time shivalik project is completed the final design of p17a is done and we see spontaneous production of p17a class ships.

total of 19 will be there.12 of p17 and 7 of p17a
correct me if im wrong

Love the new concepts....I do hope that the concept is implemented within the timeframe, without any delays. inbetween does anyone know about DRDO working on electric propulsion?

Looks like building blocks or ice cream slabs.

I loved the ship of yesterday, menacing looking with all the guns and super structure!

but sir the ships of yester years would have stood out like neon lights on radar that is why there has been a movement towards employs stealth technology construction techniques in an effort to ensure that it is harder to detect by one or more of radar, visual, sonar, and infrared methods. In designing a ship with reduced radar signature, the main concerns are radar beams originating near or slightly above the horizon (as seen from the ship) coming from distant patrol aircraft, other ships or sea-skimming anti-ship missiles with active radar seekers. Therefore, the shape of the ship avoids vertical surfaces, which would perfectly reflect any such beams directly back to the emitter. Retro-reflective right angles are eliminated to avoid causing the cat's eye effect

Jocks era is gone in the field of a modern battlefield. It has been taken over by nerds and geeks with their computers and video games. :)

Engineers FTW!

I love the direction in which IN is going. Admiral Verma and ex-admiral Mehta have done a good job in shaping the Navy's future doctrine. They are righ now rising very well and modernizing fast despite a tiny budget while IA and IAF are stumbling again and again. Maybe they also need to be imposed with budgetary restrictions. Only then they will learn to adopt well like Navy.

but with this the navy should also bring in lots of training and only good and deserving people should be made officers.

i met a retired 1971 war veteran from navy who was in service selection board also and said that after 1985 morons are being inducted in navy because navy was no more a prefered destination.

he was sad, frustrated and angry when he told me that in the last 3 years 3 warships had collided in mid sea costing India massive capital funds to refurbish them and as we know one of the destroyer is now retired also because it had sunken on the bay and after analysis they said that its better to retire it than refurbish- after months of making it rise again.

technologies are coming into being at an unimaginable pace- he said that what they used to visualize and conceptualize back in 70s and 80s, those technologies are at the verge of being called obsolete

You couldn't be more wrong. A large no. of applicants, especially cream goes for navy. Another thing is that Navy has the highest requirements for eligibility criteria. AFAIK, navy also pays the highest.

Ship building projects are unlikely to cease for a very very long time as IN is planning a fleet of 4-6 carriers it will need escorts. IN CBG typically consists of 2 destroyers 2 frigates 1 supply ship maybe a SSN in the future. Also the 4 new LPH that are being planned will require escorts, French Mistral class seems to be leading the race which is hopelessly lacking in defense and will require escorts In the near future INS Vikramadtiya, IAC 1, IAC 2 and 4 LPH will require a minimum of 10 destroyers and 14 frigates. This is independent of the ships needed for other duties like anti piracy, patrol, reserve and refit. One can see the IN as the 2nd strongest navy in the world in 30 years at least as far as surface fleet goes.

Littoral combat ship are the one which Indian Navy needs to look upon

These ships can provide for multiple roles - ASW, Assault ships, Surface warfare and even has Mine Sweepers

IN wont be needing to rely on different ships for different roles.

USS Independence
