This is the culmination of the Assam Regiment's passing out parade. This part is based on a true 2nd World war story....
A jawan by the name Badlu Ram died in war but the company's Quarter Master forgot to strike out his name and continued to draw rations for him too. Obviously this resulted in creation of surplus rations over a period of a few months. But when this company was surrounded by the Japanese and cut off logistically, the surplus ration of Badlu Ram not only helped them through the siege but also resulted in defeating repeated Japanese attacks, else they would have starved to death instead.
This is the regimental song of Assam Regiment: *Badluram ka Badan zamin ke niche hai aur hamko uska ration milta hai *
This regimental song is performed by young recruits in the Assam Regimental Center after every passing out parade on the stadium stairs that overlook the parade ground in Happy Valley Shillong.
Have a look, it's a treat to see this performance.
