LCA TEJAS MK1 & MK1A: News and Discussion

Stay positive. Fighting in Ladakh is not easy for any army. Time and again it has been proven that infantry is quite potent in mountains. It will be India's will to fight rather than fancy weapons that will determine the outcome. Plus there is a secret factor.

Why is IAF so hung up on Meteor? This is wrong thinking. Way forward is variants of Astra. I think it is just institutional resistance to Indian made products within IAF. It is more than performance of Meteor. There is no reason why every IAF aircraft has to fire Meteor.

LCA TEJAS MK1 & MK1A: News and Discussion

You guys are confused about basic things. An order to HAL is not a big deal. It is not like a tender where evaluation takes several years. HAL is under MOD and an order is a mere formality. Anyway let's see how it goes. I am pessimistic about performance of HAL. It is highly inefficient and...

You are not aware and you are assuming stuff. Orders can be given if HAL shows it can deliver. What is the point of giving orders when it cannot deliver.

HAL is supposed to deliver 16 units in 2019-20, as per its own production plan. This number is nowhere in sight today.

You are wrong. Mk1 orders of 40 units includes 32 single seat and 8 double seat. Only 16 single seat are delivered. Mk1A orders of 73 units - 0 delivered so far. Significant orders have been given. Orders is not an issue. How will govt order if you cannot deliver????

patriots, production rate is too low. Three years taken to deliver 18 SPs. HAL production rate is supposed to be 16 per year now. But no unit has been delivered in April-June quarter.

I am very worried about slow action on Tejas. I do not know what is stopping Govt from privatizing Tejas project. Tejas needs to move to private sector now.

I think existing Tejas sq will move north once another starts raising. Methinks Leh and Pathankot have highest possibility of basing Tejas. Anyway South India needs at least two fighter squadrons. I think one Tejas sq will stay put where it is currently.

LCA TEJAS MK1 & MK1A: News and Discussion

I have no idea how many lots of R77 were bought and when. You need to ask IAF. Fair to assume some lots have expired or expiring which need to be replaced. Plus additional missiles are needed for new build aircraft. You are assuming too many things. You have no idea of Astra production vs BVR...

LCA TEJAS MK1 & MK1A: News and Discussion

Every missile has a shelf life. Some missiles can be re-manufactured - like propellent can be replaced. Some missiles are sealed and become useless after specified time period. You can ask Air Force about "inventory" of R77. All I can tell you is that old missiles need to be removed from...

Astra production is ramping up. But remember first lots are like test missiles. Imports will be there as well to top up inventory.

My friend no need to worry. Astra and Nag are important missiles and production is ramping up. However imports will be there to top up inventory as both missiles are very late.

rone, I think LCA is now M2K class. So real multi-role. SU-30 I think is primarily air defence and air superiority.

LCA TEJAS MK1 & MK1A: News and Discussion

8 Su-30 are more capable than one squadron of JF-17. Please keep in mind that it is not a pure numbers game. India has enough number to defend; but NOT ENOUGH to attack. India needs quick boost-up in numbers of another 150-200 fighters.

LCA TEJAS MK1 & MK1A: News and Discussion

India needs at least 400 small single engine fighters like Tejas. These fighters should fill all first line air defence bases; and second line air defence should be longer ranged Su-30, Mig-29 or similar Western aircrafts. India needs a minimum of 1200 fighters. The current number is too far...

I would say that such things are classified. A Mig 21 shot down F-16 with WVR. This should be a good starting point.
