ATGS of DRDO is also 155/52. OFB too is running a program to upgrade Dhanush from 155/45 to 155/52.

Good they are making guns, but I hope this does not come in the way of urgently acquiring these guns. India has bought so many weapons systems since 1987 and expensive ones too but the damn curse of Bofors does not allow us to buy arty.

And The curse of Bofors continues. I once saw on future weapons a Swedish SPH. I think it was this or may be its next gen Archer Artillery System - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Damn this is not good news. Why was the RFP changed to relax the stringent requirement? The gun is really good and had a great chance to win. Also they have their indian partner in Mahindra to take care of offset. Pretty depressing news this is.

MRLS too have evolved. They are used in bunker buster mode as well. They can take out convoys in air burst mode. Modern systems are pretty much accurate. We are working on guided rockets too. Again I don't say we don't need guns, but may be not to the tune of thousands. May be another FMS...

If you read the comparison i gave earlier, an MLRS is more effective than a howitzer. It is able to fire a variety of munitions. India has its own system called Pinaka and Russian Smerch.

It would be better to have a comparison of the firepower of a howitzer to a modern MLRS. This is what i have gathered WRT what the US marine corps is thinking and also a comparison to what an MLRS can do and a howitzer. Quoting a few excerpts below. more over here...

I think you are right in your assessment nitesh and i too share the same view. MLRS is gaining increasing importance. May be that is the reason why IA is not going hammer and tongs after the MoD for artillery though it is a necessity. An MLRS give more firepower per battery than a howitzer with...

FMS means that the supplier will supplier at the same rate as they do to the US armed forces. So it should not be at any cost which is way too high.

Ah you got me wrong. I am a fan of the Arjun, but the army isn't but the GoI made sure the army ordered some. Similarly the GoI could force the IA into using DRDO guns. Some gun is better than nothing at all. I am all for indigenous weapons. My concern right now is no gun at all in 30 years. If...

DRDO should have come up with the idea years back..why did it take 20 years to tell that it can make the gun?? DRDO always comes to the govt to offer its services for anything.. they should have done it in this case and got some money for development. If it had done that 15 years back, we...

Something has to be don about this non sense of a procurement policy and more so with the Guns. We are lying naked so to speak without these guns. I would not mind FMS, or even another "bribed" deal, but get the freaking guns for God sake. I think the bofors scandal did us more harm by way of...

    Indian Army Artillery

God no. I mean good that DRDO will come up with a gun, but they will have to come up with a next gen gun. We need some NOW and URGENTLY at that. We don't have time for DRDO to research up and come up with a gun and then have trials rejections etc and then come back to square one. We need guns...

BAE has already tied up with Mahindra to make arty guns at home. Looks like they are confident of the B05. Anyways its predecessor is a hit in india in spite of all the controversies.

Great news this. I think if there is any more delay in the acquisition process of the towed guns, i think the army might pressure the government to use the Foreign Military sales route for that too. Would not be a bad option. We need all those guns badly especially since the army is now working...
