Re: The Indian Navy's brand new Krivak-II class stealth frigate arrive

Another Q: Do these FFGs have any intended role as carrier escorts or are these solely the responsibility of the P17/17A and P15/15B?
They can very well do that.Infact there is not difference in AAW components comparing P17 or Talwar class. both are the same SAM (may b little differences). Also all other weapons are the same with few exceptions. But however the Electronics,Radars and Command and Control systems on P17 are somewhat advanced and Shivaliks can act as command ships if required.

P15/15B are however AAW ships specifically designed for fleet air defense.

Experts may know for what purpose Talwars are being and will b used for :)

OFB makes AK 630 on licence.
Ordnance Factory Board

I think we can use this gun for anti cruise missile role for securing important buildings and airfields.

For airfield defence from cruise missile it would be better if we put this gun on sides of airfield on mobile towers type of structure, with the fire power it can take out cruise missile at ease. Plus it can take out enemy fighters if need be.

on emergency duty, they can also use something like

for protection of BMD assets or other important locations.

Everybody should bear in mind....
The colossal USN fleet that dominated the pacific and the Atlantic in world war 2 had its humble beginnings in the great white fleet of the early 1900s.
Our IN fleet is at a similar stage,we are now witness to the baby steps of our blue water fleet....
Only the sky's the limit to its expansion and potential....

Shivaliks are the Most Network Centric Warship of the Indian Navy. They can stay more time at High Seas than any other Indian Warship. They can act as Flagships. Have all round AAW (50 Km), ASW (2 Helos), AShW (Klub-N) Capabilities and World's Largest Stealth Frigates at 6.200 Tonnes not being detected at 100 Km distance.
P15/15B are however AAW ships specifically designed for fleet air defense.
P15B is one of the Most Potent Warship ever made.

Talwars are also One man ship with all round capabilities. Very handy. Can neutralize hundreds of Kms of area of operation.

A couple of Talwar is more than enough to choke up Paki Ports.

Admiral Dewey's flagship is still afloat on the Delaware River in Philadelphia.

India can build hulls, but there is quite a bit more to it than that. Once DRDO develops the propulsion, weapons, sensors and comms, then India can think about being a true Super Power navy. That is a long wait.

The days of super power navy are over. USN was and is the last one. There won't be another one for a very very long time.

As for wishlists, would also like to see BAE Bofors MK110 57mm Naval Gun (Bofors 57 mm Mk 3) for coastal defense.

Bofors 57 mm Mk 3
The Mark 3 is the latest version of the gun. Bofors designed it in 1996 and it entered service in 2000. The gun uses smart ammunition but can also fire the same ammunition as the Mk 2. The stealth variant has a reduced radar profile, in part by hiding the gun barrel when it is not firing. Also, the gun has a small radar mounted on the gun barrel to measure muzzle velocity for fire control purposes and can change ammunition types instantly due to a dual-feed system.
