JF-17 Thunder
According to Global Security, in July 2003 Chengdu Aircraft Industrial Corporation (CAIC) unveiled the new 'Super-7' or Chao Qi fighter plane to the public, China supposedly received orders from Iran. The plane, now called the FC-1 is an export version of the JF-17 Thunder and entered production in 2006. As of 2008 Iran hasn't received any such plane.[10]

All usa has to do is stop supplying spares to saudis and this deal will be dead.

Russia won't supply anything as the Saudis are supporting the Islamic terrorists who are responsible for bombings in Volgograd and other places in Russia, to stop the winter Olympics in sochi.

mate the most humiliating thing for iran on the planet would be buying pakistani built fighters :D

our shits fly better . i feel much more safe with my parachute when it comes to flying compared to jf-17 cause the ejection seat will probably eject my brain out !

i am thinking of a joint project between iran and india or iran china when the sanctions fade away

With the help from Russia, French and Amercians on tech support and key components, it took India 30 years to LCA.

How long do you think Iran's own projects would need? Especially when they are isloated by the world?

It took 30 years because of ill political will so as to get kickbacks from the foreign vendors. The lack of leadership has brought INDIA into this mess of importing defence equipment. We Indians have the man power and the scientists and the technology to design fighters on our own. But there is no political will to invest money in indigenous products so as to get bribe and kickbacks from Russia. The Russians are also one reason why we could not develop a fighter on our own as we would stop buying their cheap and trash export quality stuff for more money.

but egypt too was an american ally, maybe not like the Saudi-US relations. But after the recent events like takeover of the govt by Egyptian army, US decided to stop the supply of equipments like fighter jets to the country and after a few days russia said it would be helping the Egyptians by increasing the defence cooperation. What if the same thing happened to saudis in an event if US decides to stop the supplies ?

These are the problems any developing country has to handle including China.

You didn't have these knowledge in 1980. Your scientists learned their lessons in this 30 years. Even today, you are still some neccessary knowledges to build your own fighter completely.

But there is no political will to invest money in indigenous products so as to get bribe and kickbacks from Russia. The Russians are also one reason why we could not develop a fighter on our own as we would stop buying their cheap and trash export quality stuff for more money.
These russian stuff are still cheap and better than the best you can produce.

Re: Saudi eyeing Pakistan's JF-17 fighter jet, modeled from U.S. F-1

Most advanced weaponry take their own sweet time to complete, because of redesign requirements, late discoveries of faults, advances in technology etc. They cannot always be blamed on us lacking the will or technical abilities. For example, look at the overblown speculation on the F35, which we all look up to (including the chinese). The F35 still has flaws:

Lockheed F-35 Develops Cracks, Pentagon's Tester Finds
Lockheed F-35 Develops Cracks, Pentagon's Tester Finds - Bloomberg

The chinese found an easy way out for their systems, they either stole/spied and copied western designs or hired out of job russian scientists and had them reproduce russian equipment and knowledge for their indigenous developments.

The marut was the first aircraft which was designed by India and it had a engine of foreign origin. To know more about marut do a search about it.
