Saudi diplomat shot dead in Pakistan

PTI | May 16, 2011, 11.41am IST; Times of India

ISLAMABAD: A Saudi Arabian diplomat was shot and killed by unidentified attackers in Karachi on Monday, just five days after explosives devices were lobbed at the Saudi consulate in the southern Pakistani port city.

The Saudi diplomat, identified in media reports as Hasan M M Al-Kahtani, was attacked by four gunmen riding two motorcycles while he was driving to work.

The attack occurred a short distance from the Bahrain consulate.

The Saudi Embassy in Islamabad confirmed that the victim was a diplomat.

Police officials said the gunmen intercepted the car and fired over a dozen bullets at the victim.

He was declared dead on arrival at the Jinnah Hospital.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack. On May 11, two men riding a motorcycle lobbed two low intensity explosive devices at the Saudi consulate in Karachi though no one was injured in the attack.

Saudi officials said the blasts caused minor damage to buildings within the consulate compound.

The attacks came in the wake of the May 2 raid by US special forces in the garrison city of Abbottabad that killed al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

Saudi assistant foreign minister Prince Khaled bin Saud had urged Pakistani authorities to ensure the protection of the kingdom's diplomatic missions in the country.

Interesting news and regrets for loss of life.

In any event, Saudi Arabia has been a target of Al-Qaida for being an ally of the US.

I wonder if any diplomat from PRC will come under such attacks. Al-Qaida is quite aware of what is going on in East Turkestan, currently under occupation of PRC.

Saudi citizen killed in Karachi attack on consulate car

Saudi citizen killed in Karachi attack on consulate car

16 May 2011 Last updated at 08:10 ET; BBC News

Officials said the car was attacked about 1km (half a mile) from the consulate

Gunmen opened fire on a car belonging to the Saudi consulate in Karachi, killing a Saudi citizen, police said.

Hassan al-Qahtani, a consulate employee, was attacked in the wealthy and normally peaceful Defence district.

The attack comes two days after grenades were thrown at the consulate building, causing no injuries.

No group has said it carried out the attack, but al-Qaeda is known to be violently opposed to the Saudi government.

The group has vowed to avenge the death of its Saudi-born leader Osama Bin Laden, who was killed in a US raid in Pakistan earlier this month. Saudi Arabia stripped the al-Qaeda leader of citizenship years ago.

A Taliban spokesman told the BBC that while they did not carry out this attack, they supported whoever did.

A Saudi official told the AFP news agency that the attack took place about 1km (half a mile) from the consular building.

"At least six bullets were fired in the attack," Deputy Inspector General of Police Iqbal Mahmood told reporters.

"There were four men on two motorbikes and they stopped the vehicle before opening fire," he said.

Saudi ambassador Abdul Aziz al-Ghadeer condemned the attack. "No-one who carries out this kind of attack can be a Muslim," he told the Reuters news agency.

The southern port city of Karachi has seen an increase in violence in recent years. There have been Taliban attacks on the city and ethnically-based political and sectarian killings are common too.

But when the exact same group attacks godless Russian kafirs, they are "God's Chosen Warriors"

Saudi fools are reaping what they have sown.
Cant agree more with what you said - these Saudi Punks have been bankrolling Islamic Sunni extremists all over the world and in Pakistan.

They play a 2 faced game of allying with US against extremist groups that target them, but at the same time fund all sorts of radical groups that support their agenda.

They deserve it.

Not Chinese diplomats, but some engineers were killed by these mofos in 2006-2007 time period, which resulted in Chinese pressure on musharraf to launch operation lal masjid.
