The Ministry of Defence, Government of India, intends to procure approx quantity 2958 x Mini Truck (generic nomenclature of equipment).
The vehicle is primarily to be used as a load carrier of payload capacity 900 – 1200 Kg in all types of terrain. It should be 4x4 drive capable of operating in different terrain and climatic conditions prevalent in the country for use by the Indian Army.
The platform should facilitate modification for other uses including small troop carriage, specialist roles viz, reconnaissance and weapon platform incl containerization capable to operate on highways and cross country.

In short Army wanted something to take place of old Nissan 4W73 ..

Yes, Their are 1 Tons still active in Army, This video is taken 5 months back ..

Army did not had any preparation for replacement when retired these vehicles in late 90s ..

The photo itself represents the desperation ..

RFI here demands a vehicle in same class of Nissan 4W73 but way advance and much like Humvee ..

RFI says seating capacity of 4(excluding the driver)and also mentions gunners hatch as requirement.

Can you deliver anything worthwhile in 1000 kg? Seems army needs a bigger Jeep rather than a small truck.

The ubiquitous Tata 407 should be the minimum for cargo duties

I think they have also made arrangements to enhance the rail networks and increased the number of cargo trains. Last month there was news about Army giving guidelines to civil transport ministry about the recommended dimensions for rails (larger than 1m gauge). Earlier the heavy trucks were used to transport man and material, now they seem to be diversifying. The personnel will travel in light skinned smaller vehicles and heavy equipment will be transported via rail.

@Kunal Biswas Does this decision have significant positive effect on our quick mobilization ability (cold start)? if yes, good. If not, how many years for cold start to be fully operational?
