Pakistan elections 2018: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI ) candidate Ikramullah Gandapur was injured in an explosion that took place in Dera Ismail Khan on Sunday. The blast, suspected to be a suicide attack, took place in Kolachi area of Dera Ismail Khan.

New Delhi/Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Ikramullah Gandapur was killed in a suicide blast that took place in Dera Ismail Khan (DI Khan) on Sunday, just three days before the country goes to polls. Gandapur's driver was also killed while his two security guards suffered injuries in the explosion, the Dawn reported.
The explosion took place in Kolachi area of Dera Ismail Khan. The report quoted police as saying that the PTI leader was targeted near his residence while he was leaving to attend a political convention. Gandapur, a PTI candidate, was fighting elections on a provincial assembly seat from PK-99 constituency.
The police reportedly believe that a remote-control bomb had triggered the explosion, though the nature of the blast was yet to be ascertained. Police and security forces had reached the blast site soon after the explosion and had cordoned off the area, reports said.
Meanwhile, earlier in the day, PTI chief Imran Khan had taken to Twitter to condemn the attack and wished his party candidate a speedy recovery. “Strongly condemn the cowardly terrorist attack against Ikram Khan Gandapur and his convoy today. May Allah grant Ikram and the other injured a speedy recovery,” Khan tweeted.

Notably, Gandapur’s brother, Israrullah Gandapur, who was a PTI provincial minister, was also killed in a suicide bombing in October 2013 at their residence in Kalachi, Geo News reported. Ikramullah has served as the provincial agricultural minister in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, led by PTI.
On July 13, a deadly blast had ripped through the election rally of Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) Nawabzada Siraj Raisani in Mastung, killing at least 130 people, including Raisani, and injuring 300 others.

Shehbaz vows to make Pak ‘better than India’ if elected.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz chief Shehbaz Sharif has said people can change his name if he does not take Pakistan ahead of India after coming into power, according to a media report on Sunday.
Sharif, the PML-N prime ministerial candidate, made the remarks while addressing a rally in Sargodha district on Saturday. “They (Indians) will come to Wagah Border and call Pakistanis their master,” Sharif was quoted as saying by The Express Tribune.
The former Punjab CM and brother of ex-PM Nawaz Sharif said he would bring Pakistan at par with Malaysia and Turkey. He added that he would meet the leaders of the two countries “to learn from them and make Pakistan a great nation again”.

Security personnel among four killed in Balochistan rocket attack
QUETTA: At least three security personnel and a civilian were martyred while 13 others sustained injuries after a military convoy on election duty came under attack in Turbat on Tuesday.
Unidentified attackers targetted the convoy near a polling station established in Mund area, initial reports suggested. The injured were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital Turbat while the area has been cordoned off and an investigation is underway.
The attack is the latest incident of violence to grip the province in the run up to the elections. At least 30 people were injured, five critically, in a hand grenade attack ripped through the election office of the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) in the Dalbandin area of Chaghi district on July 22.

QUETTA: At least 28 people, including 5 policeman and two children, were killed in a suspected suicide attack outside a polling station near Eastern Bypass in Quetta on Wednesday, hospital sources said.
Thirty others were injured in the attack.
Rescue sources said the explosion occurred near a police vehicle on routine patrolling.
A police spokesperson said, the suicide bomber wanted to enter the polling station.
"The suicide bomber blew himself up when police and FC personnel stopped him from entering the station," the police spokesperson said.
The bomb disposal squad has also reached the site of the attack after reports that an unexploded grenade has been discovered.
DIG Abdul Razzak Cheema said the injured have been shifted to Sandeman Provincial Hospital. A state of emergency has been declared at the hospital.
The border crossing between Pakistan and Afghanistan in Chaman, Balochistan was closed by the government on Tuesday for two days in the wake of the general election.
Polling across the country for the 11th General Election began at 8am.
