10 Talwar + 10 P 17 A/B + 3 Brahmaputra + 7 NGC (Light Frigate) = 30 Frigates.

I don't understand the rationale behind this purchase. In case of a Indo-Pak conflict, larger the surface vessel more attention it will recieve. So not only will these frigates fail to do their jobs like patrolling the SLOCs or escorting the merchant vessels, they will find themselves at the bottom of the sea pretty early in the conflict.


Upgraded F-22P would have cost half of this and two more subs instead of this would have been far more survivable and a bigger nuisance to IN.

I don't understand the rationale behind this purchase. In case of a Indo-Pak conflict, larger the surface vessel more attention it will recieve. So not only will these frigates fail to do their jobs like patrolling the SLOCs or escorting the merchant vessels, they will find themselves at the bottom of the sea pretty early in the conflict.


Upgraded F-22P would have cost half of this and two more subs instead of this would have been far more survivable and a bigger nuisance to IN.

Type 054A has HQ 16 missile with 48 - 50 km range. This will allow it to at least threaten Mig 29Ks , Su 30 MKI and possible F/A 18 SH aircraft that may attack Pakistani convoys from A/C or land bases. Also they have built a decent force of missile boats and small craft which can use larger radar (250 km Fregat - M radar Chinese Copy) of the frigate to use over the horizon targeting of ships.

Having said that Pakis are shit scared of Brahmos because a single hit will either destroy or write off the vessel and thus they are paying for FL 3000N based SAM for terminal stage interception. But FL 3000N has just 6km against a supersonic missile (read Mach 2). Thus they are fucked literally.

Pakis have been signing a lot deals but don't have any money to pay for it. China may give something in return for gwadar but I can't see turkey give anything for free. They will need cash and any US or Euro tech will not be provided.

Come on these type 54A have no chance against combo of Visakhapatnam class destroyers + shivalik new generation + Talwar class Figrates along with whole CBG

The real Threat comes from 11 AIP subs
We need more SSK and scorpene to counter it

Naval dockyards are jam packed with orders and can't take extra capacity. Private shipyards have no capability. If your beloved Congress comes to power, we are truly fucked.

Is this going to come with HQ-16 SAM?

It can be shot down from Brahmos shot 500+ Km away from MKI. HQ 16 is a Chinese junk and can not do anything. This is a good purchase for India as Pakistani Hard earned money will go into Chinese junk. Like 2 warships purchased by Pakistan some years ago from china is causing maintenance nightmare for Pak navy, this two shall not be different. Had Pakistan had bought french subs, it would have been a cause of concern for India but fortunately , they went for Chinese stuff.

I don't think that is the case. Pakistan Navy was the biggest loser in 1971, lost half of their fleet and then some. If anyone truly knows how lethal AShM can be, it's the PN.

There is no way in hell Pakis believe their cheap Shtil copy will be effective against Brahmos. It's something else.

It may be Chini masters want Pakis to save Gwadar as long as possible in a conflict.
