This is a country which was created on basis of religion as they would have thought Islam to be greatest binding factor. Frequently talks of Islamic world, ummah, even pan Islamic state. Has almost negligible religious minority. All in all a political landmass with uniform culture. And yet it can't enjoy a stable democracy.

What hollowness, what bankruptcy, what incompetency, what glorification of weakness.......what a wast, what a waste. No doubt why it is regarded as a cancer to the world.
Democracy = what majority wants
What if the majority does not want democracy?

Why is it being forced upon us?

How do you know what the majority wants? Have you taken a referendum on the type of government your country wants? If so, pl provide an authentic link.

There is only a small minority who wants to hand over the reins of power to the army. And you think the army will do a fantastic job? Look at what's happened to Pakistan after Zia took over. You got screwed and still are getting screwed to this day. 60,000 including army personnel killed so far and counting! Thanks to the undemocratic fundamentalist Islamic way of life he introduced that gave the Mullahs enormous power and madrassas sprouted all over, teaching jehad as a way of life. And the ISI was used for breeding terrorists from this stock as an instrument of state policy.

No wonder the world brands Pakistan as the fountainhead of terror. You are becoming a failed state, and China is slowly but surely taking over, assimilating you guys like the Borg! Pakistan will soon become an autonomous region of China like Tibet! I give it another 10-15 years at the most!

Taking majority's openion is democracy. Has your country taken advice of majority? I guess not. Even ever you decide to please ask 'majority ' if they like military rule over democratically elected government because they think they can never have a healthy successful latter?

More of compulsion in form of last resort than choice. Otherwise your country would not have been a.....never mind.

1. Hope Mods will take note to expunge profane language. All members are here for decent and constructive discussion. Let us not make civility a casualty.
2. Prolonged control of affairs by the military in any country cannot be healthy. People's happiness, peace and progress can come only from strict adherence to democracy. Of course Pakistanis understand this, but the issues confronting them are:
a. Emergence of a rotten and corrupt political establishment that people do not trust.
b. Perceived Indian threat that has developed through education, social and historical experience.
c. The new threats perceived of American and Israeli invasions that Pak political leadership is not fit to face.

Actually @Zulfiqar Khan is telling the truth

Muslims cannot survive under democracy. Offer them the world, they will still choose Khilafat and Sharia. This is the fate every country which hosts large Muslim population is bound to meet.

The title of the thread is a tad misleading. It seems to imply that Pak military has only now started tightening its grip. They've always had that "c*ntry" by its shrivelled necrotic b*lls.

They squeeze them from time to time to show the civvies and the aawam, who's the boss.
