Sikh Hailed as Hero for Helping Arrest New York Terror Suspect

New York: A Sikh bar owner in the US is being hailed as a hero for helping capture the 28-year old Afghan-American wanted for the weekend bombings in New York and New Jersey.

Harinder Bains, the owner of a bar in Linden found Ahmad Khan Rahami sleeping in the doorway of his bar yesterday.

Bains said he was watching news on TV on his laptop from another business across the street.

At first, he thought he was some "drunk guy" resting in the vestibule but then recognised Rahami and called police.

"I'm just a regular citizen doing what every citizen should do. Cops are the real heroes, law enforcement are the real heroes," Bains said.

When officers responded, Rahami pulled out a handgun and opened fire, striking an officer in the chest.

A foot chase ensued, during which Rahami shot at a police car, causing a bullet to graze another office in the face.

The chase ended when Rahami was shot multiple times. He was taken to a hospital for surgery. Rahami was not initially cooperative with police who tried to interview him, a law enforcement official said.

Indian-American attorney Ravi Batra told PTI that Bains "dared to honour his Oath of Citizenship to protect & defend the Constitution from enemies foreign and domestic-and it's turns out that the Chelsea Pressure Cooker Bomber suspect, a naturalised citizen, is caught by another immigrant, an Indian-American Hero-Sikh."

In a statement, the National Sikh Campaign said this was brave and courageous act by Bains.

"A Sikh helps police get to the terrorist involved in New York and New Jersey bombing over the weekend," it said.

"He heroically helped save many innocent lives and yet gave credit to law enforcement officers. Harinder Bains certainly did what every responsible citizen in America ought to do. Brave and courageous act!" said the National Sikh Campaign.

NYC bombing suspect's father told police son was a terrorist in 2014 - report

Mohammed Rahami, father of Ahmad Khan Rahami, who is suspected of planting bombs in New York and New Jersey, alerted police of his son in 2014 after Ahmad had stabbed another of his sons amid an argument, the New York Times reported.

Mohammed Rahami told NYT that he spoke with FBI agents about the stabbing, noting that he had concerns about Ahmad, which led to a review by the agency, according to federal officials. The FBI opened an assessment of Ahmad Rahami, leading to an interview with Mohammed Rahami, who then recanted concerns over his son's potential for violence.

An anonymous official told NYT that the elder Rahami made the comments about his son to the FBI out of anger.

"Two years ago I go to the FBI because my son was doing really bad, OK?" Mohammed Rahami said, according to NYT. "But they check almost two months, they say, 'He’s OK, he’s clean, he’s not a terrorist.' I say OK."

And the boston bombers, the other group which used pressure-cooker bombs, the russian FSB had warned the FBI that they were terrorists, and still the FBI didn't do anything?
I don't believe the FBI is that incompetent, come on.

The man believed to be responsible for the explosion in Manhattan on Saturday night and an earlier bombing in New Jersey, Ahmad Khan Rahami, was taken into custody and charged with attempted murder on Monday after he was wounded in a gunfight with the police, law enforcement officials said.

The dramatic episode on a rain-soaked street in Linden, N.J., came after the police issued a cellphone alert to millions of residents in the area telling them to be on the lookout for Mr. Rahami, 28, who was described as “armed and dangerous.”

Mr. Rahami was charged with seven counts, including five counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, with bail set at $5.2 million......

......Mr. Rahami was born on Jan. 23, 1988, in Afghanistan. He was described as a naturalized citizen who had been living with his family in Elizabeth, not far from where he was arrested. Neighbors said that several years ago Mr. Rahami traveled to his homeland and when he returned, he showed signs of radicalization. The significance of the visit was not immediately clear. It was not known whether he had any links to an overseas terror organization, or whether he had been inspired by such organizations.

As far as outgoing information is concerned, we are seeing a lot of instances which favor us, for example most TV serials like Homeland show Pakistan as a terror hub, and most news mentions and news itself are negative, but that is not having much effect on American policy, nor have I seen ordinary Americans on the internet making anti-Pakistan posts in large numbers. Mostly Americans are absent in Indo-Pak debates online, or at least, they are not as visible as they are in the Israel-Palestine debates. So even if we assume that we have succeeded in 'isolating Pakistan', what are the real dividends we get from it?

Well, it is true that law enforcement cannot take action unless they have probably cause. For example, a magistrate judge will not issue a warrant unless law enforcement can provide ample evidence to convince the judge that the suspect is about to commit a crime.

In case of the Tsarnayev Brothers, and their uncle, Ruslan Tsarni (un-Russified from Tsarnayev), they were brought into the US by politically influential persons, and there is reason to believe they were supposed to be US "assets" against Russia. So, there appears to be some culpability on part of a certain section of the US government. In case of the NY terrorist, I really haven't had time to read much due to work pressure. So, I don't know what is going on, but you might be onto something.
