    Ajanta - Light Infantry

    Ajanta - Light Infantry

Light Cavalry, this is from the 9th-10th Century AD, but I think it's relevant to this era. Light Cavalry with some scale armor.

    Ajanta - War Elephant

Armored War Elephants - This is from 1st-2nd Century AD, Ter. Little earlier, but still relevant.

    Gupta Art - Horse Archer

Gupta Art - Charioteer - This is a religious art, so a chariot is only there for the scene. But the scale armor is relevant to this period, IMHO.

All this would have been much more appreciated had we invaded and captured far off areas in Persia Central Asia etc.

seems like the armoured infantrymen (Heavy Infantry) were similar in concept to the Persian immortals. The most elite infantry that accompanied the king. It's a leap but would explain the rarity of armour in these sculptures.

The image on the coin is so amazing! That subtle head tilt downward makes me think of a king thinking about things that worry him. Of course, it's probably a hunting image, seems to have put a spear through a lions head! How I wish they had left us with more detailed historical records!
