No report yet, this is the video.

Iran is proving very awkward for India as India tries to balance relations with it and the US.

We need Iran for our access to Afghanistan. It is unfortunate that such things are happening.

However, we can screw Iran by supporting the Baloch nationalists. Iran needs to know this.

Let us not forget, Balochistan (Pakistan) and Sistan-Balochistan (Iran) form greater Balcoshistan that is advocated by many Baloch nationalists.

It will not be too much of an effort for India to resurrect the passions of Nawab Akbar Bugti (he is a legend among many Baloch).

We need the Iranians for more than just access to Iran. We need to keep them from falling to the Chinese.

According to the ToI report, it lost course. Did it stray into forbidden waters?

Perhaps the Iranians are justified in their detentions, however, the Indian citizens should be given consular access.

I tried to embed from that link. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/ the video is there right now on the site. 9 indians have been detained and not being provided consular access.
Thanks.

Just heard that out.

Iran can detain them if they were not scheduled to visit Iranian ports. They will ascertain whether the good being carried are not detrimental to Iran's interest, interrogate the crew and then take judicial remedy if needed.

It is now for the Indian Embassy to interact and get the ship and the crew released and prove that there was no malafide intentions but was a case of straying in bad weather.

It ain't gonna work bud!

Why on earth would Iran favour Baloch nationalism and endanger its own territorial integrity?

Iran has Baluchis.

Baluchis on both sides want a Baluch country.

Therefore, Iran will not lift a finger!

I think the Chinese will snare them sooner or later, and we will loose out. China doesn't have to make hard decisions on whether to side with the Iranians or the Americans, but we do. And that will be the sole reason, for us loosing a valuable ally.

I agree.

Denying consular access is a breach of all maritime agreements, conduct and niceties in the diplomatic sphere. Don't make this hard for the both of us, Iran.

Interestingly, the 35-year old Iran-o-Hind shipping company is still operating, despite sanctions and action by the UN against Iran's enrichment program. Plans are also afoot for greater maritime cooperation, and Iran has joined the Indian Navy's annual initiative, the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium.

In light of all this, a detention of Indian merchant-vessel personnel is not good.

P.S Is this Chobar port, the same as Chabahar port?
