Railway project to link Kashmir with rest of India put on fast track

In an effort to link Kashmir to the rest of the country, the Railways has put the Udhampur-Baramulla project on the fast track. The national transporter is expecting the commissioning of the project by 2021-22, and the completion of the world’s highest railway-arch bridge over River Chenab by mid- 2020.

The project is now being directly monitored by the Prime Minister’s Office for its faster completion. Its commissioning was earlier targeted for 2020, but the project got delayed.

Of the 272-km Udhampur-Baramulla rail line, nearly 111-km stretch between Katra and Banihal is incomplete. This stretch has around 97-km of tunnels and includes a 359-meter high bridge on Chenab, will be even taller than Eiffel Tower (324 m).

According to a senior official, around 80 per cent of the Chenab bridge is complete. The railway line is key to the upcoming development plans for the Valley.

The Chenab rail bridge, estimated to cost Rs 1,250-crore, will be the gateway of the Valley, connecting it with the rest of the country and helping in faster movement of security forces, as well as finished products. The Railways has used special quality structural steel in the construction of the bridge, which needs a high degree of precision and latest welding technology.

Delhi-Katra Vande Bharat train trials complete, to ply during Navratras

New Delhi: In good news for lakhs of pilgrims visiting the holy shrine of Vaishno Devi, the Indian Railways is all set to launch Vande Bharat Express train between New Delhi and Katra during Navratras.
Indian Railway Board chairman Vinod Kumar Yadav has said that the Delhi-Katra Vande Bharat train trials have been finished. It will be a gift to pilgrims and it will ply in Navratras.
He also added that Railways is trying to upgrade the busy routes. Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Howrah will be ready by December 2021.
Yadav said that 40 Vande Bharat trains will come out by 2022. Railways is working on new specifications for the trains.
He also added that there would be transparency and it will be a 'Make in India' project. The train's tendering process was recently mired in controversy when it was alleged that the process indulged in favouritism and non-transparency.
However, after Railway Minister Piyush Goyal’s intervention, the Railway Board started the new tendering process for resuming the production of Vande Bharat Express trains. Infact, Chairman Railway Board has also added that the delay in production of Vande Bharat Express is due to change in both technical specifications and for the lack of transparency.
Earlier, Zee Media had reported that the time table of the train has been finalised by the authorities. The train will start from New Delhi junction at 6 am and will reach Katra at 2 pm the same day. The train will travel via Ambala, Ludhiana and Jammu Tawi.
As per the time table, the train will reach Ambala junction at 8.10 am, Ludhiana junction at 9.22 am and Jammu Tawi at 12.40 pm. The stoppage time for the train at each of the station will be two minutes.
On the down route, the train will depart from Katra at 3 pm and reach New Delhi at 11 pm. Timing for other stations are: Jammu Tawi – 4.18 pm, Ludhiana – 7.36 pm and Ambala – 8.56 pm. The stoppage time will remain two minutes for each station.

Thats why bullet train is elevated. Another advantage is u save land and time in acquisition ,only negative is cost.
Can we do one thing , build elevated tracks on existing railway tracks ,it will save acquisition costs a lot.

exactly....high speed trains will use elevate tracks while goods and medium speed will run on existing tracks.....
second thing is our track maintenance methods are vintage...next time when u travel via train just observe the track....they wont be straight ...this causes wobbling...wobbling will lead to disaster for high speed trains...

But elevated infrastructure will cost us dearly.
How about fencing?

It better to pay price in terms of money instead of life. In china high speed trains are mostly elevated even in barren lands why?saves acquisition costs which is far more than elevated costs.
For elevated tracks we can just add floors to existing railway stations which can also save infra cost. We need to strictly seperate slow and fast trains

And we can't enforce these things as it will be seen as atyachaar on 'poor villagers'. It's one of the remarkable features of our country.

no one can enforce such things....no country....nobody knows when n where dick head will cross railway line especially when they run b/w agriculture fields...
recently i travelled in hyd metro...just make 2 elevated tracks over existing track.... passenger , medium speed and goods trains ( below 90kmph) will run beneath while 100+kmph trains on elevated.... just like city metro trains...trains on elevated platforms and other vehicles below...

Local people will need to cross & it's a practical if they have to walk for miles for level-crossing... Full length elevated tracks will be insanely costly too!
But if you can fence the railway track's length & create mini-underpasses (most railway lines are already on higher embankments) along the way every 500m them or will be easier.
Will just need to dig below. Like this;

Ramped in case the railway track isn't placed high enough;

Elevated tracks only for high speed trains , current slow trains doesn't need elevated tracks.
Elevated tracks are better cz
1. Save Land acquisition hence cost
2. Save protests et al and hence delay costs
3. Saves enormous time hence saves costs
4. Saves wildlife in protected areas
5. Saves human life in populated areas
6. Less chance of man made accidents hence saves costs
So such savings trump costs of elevated tracks.
And if we build elevated tracks on existing normal tracks it will be massively cost effective
China is following this model in even barren lands to save time and acquisitions. Anyways land is way more important than money.
You cannot fence entire length of track as maintenance will be a huge problem and u have to keep open corridors for free movement of animals.
For elevated tracks there will no need of manned ,unmanned crossings as well.

No, it won't!.. Building a 1000 kilometre long flyover will be enormously costly compared to the digging culverts! It's very simple, that's why it's so common... see above cases.
Animals, traffic, people can all easily cross through underpasses.. that's literally their very purpose. Fencing won't be an issue. Not to mention, people & wildlife are killed in massive numbers by non-highspeed trains as well.

Railway already owns 15-20m land on each side of the tracks outside settlements, it can lay more tracks easily. In case of completely new line for high-speed trains, elevated tracks can be added to those stratches where land acquisition is creating problem.

indians are too lazy to walk 300mts ate use underpass...they will cross from where they are....i.e go straight n cross tracks....
next thing about fence .....here people break the road divider to widen the gap so that they can go to otherside....what makes u think they wont cut fence.....this is india.....
