660 millions could have been wisely spend on R&D in domestic industries itself to make big gun for now, and in future and forever :wtf:
The hangover of Bofors is not finish yet in our country and DoD was in deep sleep about domestic industries in defence business .

To be realistic , if IA wants a 155mm howitzer , then this is the one which they can get ASAP and that too by FMS only .

want to see now how our neighbours react:)
1) China introduces lookalike M777 howitzer, WEAPONS AND EQUIPMENT.

2) NORINCO AH4 155 mm/39-calibre Lightweight Gun Howitzer (China), Towed anti-tank guns, guns and howitzers.

NORINCO AH4 155 mm/39-calibre Lightweight Gun Howitzer (China) - Jane's Armour and Artillery
This article says .....

The recently revealed AH4 155 mm/39-calibre lightweight gun howitzer is very similar in appearance to the combat proven BAE Systems, Global Combat Systems 155 mm/39-calibre M777 and is claimed to use advanced materials in order to keep weight down to 4,000 kg. Details of the NORINCO AH4 155 mm/39-calibre Lightweight Gun Howitzer were released in 2010 but as of early 2012 it is understood that production had yet to commence.

A much awaited decision, and a much appreciated one, though a long time in coming but at last.

There were reports of the IA not satisfied with the trials of this gun, any update on that?

The way things are progressing in the Arty Space... IA (Arty Regiments) would be rejoicing @ this news . First IA has very stringent trials & eventually when a few vendors (along with probably some of the best systems) do manage to scrape through those trials...what's our reaction .... BAN them pronto :why: on one pretext or the other.
Lets just pray this one goes through any major glitches from here on.
