Indian history tells very clearly that periods of isolation are periods of weakness.

Traders should be free to go anywhere. Politics can change but trade endures.

Airbus in talks with Iran over deal to produce aircraft parts

IRAN hopes to be making parts for Airbus Group SE aircraft under plans being discussed following January's historic agreement to purchase 118 jetliners from the European manufacturer, reports Bloomberg News.

Airbus's Middle East office said the company is evaluating areas of industrial cooperation with Iran that may include component production and maintenance and overhaul work.

Iran developed an ability to make aircraft parts to keep its planes flying during years of economic sanctions.

Iranian Aviation and Space Industries Association President Amin Salari said in an interview in Tehran that it can offer both "a level of know-how - and very competitive labour costs.

Should an agreement be reached, Iran will join Mubadala Development Co's Strata unit as a Middle Eastern parts supplier to Airbus. The Abu Dhabi-based business, which began operations in 2010, has US$7.5 billion worth of orders from the European company and its US rival Boeing Co. through 2030.

Iran has 15 maintenance and overhaul companies, a third of them state-owned, Mr Salari said, with capabilities in areas including cabin refurbishment, aircraft seats, fibre-glass parts and cockpit panels.

High-speed rail to link China to Iran

The proposed Silk Road route will connect China to West Asia.

Chinese authorities have proposed a high-speed railway connecting its western city of Urumqi to Tehran, the country’s biggest English-language newspaper, China Daily, says.

The proposed Silk Road route will connect China to West Asia, stretching from Urumqi and Yining to Almaty in Kazakhstan, Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan, Tashkent and Samarkand in Uzbekistan, Ashgabat in Turkmenistan to the Iranian capital.

It was put forward by China Railway Corp authorities at a forum on the One Belt, One Road initiative -- the Asian giant’s bold scheme to rebuild Silk Road trade links with Europe and Asia.

Iran is participating in the ambitious plan to resurrect the Silk Road, connecting Asia to Europe and Africa through a network of roads, railways, ports and airports.

Stretching from Hungary to Indonesia, Beijing estimates the initiative will annually create more than $2.5 trillion of trade among the countries in a decade.

The new link would be complementary to the existing railway network in central Asian nations, which mostly runs to Moscow.

Iran is currently linked to Central Asia through a rail corridor which connects it to Kazakhstan and Russia through Turkmenistan, and another to Europe via Turkey.

The Silk Road encompass a territory housing 4.4 billion people or 63% of the world’s population.

The One Belt, One Road initiative comes from the shortening of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road.

The two routes combined encompass a territory housing 4.4 billion people or 63% of the world’s population. The aggregate wealth of the countries involved adds up to $2.1 trillion or 29% of the world’s gross domestic product.

The initiative would involve financing infrastructure projects in 65 nations across Central and Southeast Asia, the Persian Gulf, the Middle East and Europe.

The ancient Silk Road, established more than 2,100 years ago, connected the Han dynasty’s capital of Xian to Persia.

Through it, Iran’s grapes, beans, pomegranates, spinach, onions and other special products were introduced into China while tea, ginger, mulberries, peaches, apricots and oranges were brought to Iran over a period of more than 1,000 years.

Earlier this year, Chinese authorities toured Iranian ports, including Shahid Rajaee in the Persian Gulf, to assess infrastructure development grounds.

Apart from its economic significance, the grand project is believed to lead to significant geopolitical changes.

According to many observers, it could spell the collapse of US economic dominance through the dollar and lead to the prevalence of trade in local currencies. It could also put an end to European monopoly on international shipping.

China, Iran sign contract on redesign of Arak heavy water reactor
April 23, 2017
China and Iran signed the first commercial contract to redesign Iran's Arak heavy water reactor in Vienna on Sunday.

The commercial contract signed between the two sides is seen as an important step towards modification of the Arak heavy water reactor.

Under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Iran agreed to redesign the reactor to minimize its plutonium production and avoid production of weapons-grade plutonium.

Redesigning the Arak heavy water reactor is a core aspect of the JCPOA on Iran's nuclear program.

The JCPOA was reached in Vienna in July 2015 between Iran and the P5+1 group, namely Britain, China, France, Russia, the United States and Germany.

The P5+1 countries have created a working group led by China and the United States to work with Iran to redesign the reactor.

Iranian ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Reza Najafi told Xinhua the signing of the contract is important and Iran has very good cooperation with China. He said it's the example cooperation which the other sides should learn from.
