Army Recieves 355th VBCI
The assembly line of armored infantry fighting vehicle (VBCI) plant Nexter in Roanne (Loire), was visited by the Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs, February 9, 2012. The VBCI ( see box ) allows the transport and landing on or near the target, a combat group with all its equipment, ensuring its support with its shipboard armament.
Since the release of the first VBCI in 2008, the industrial site produces a hundred copies a year. To date, 355 of 630 copies ordered have been delivered to the Army. Four regiments already own this vehicle: 1 st Rifle Regiment (1 st g fro) of Epinal, the 35 th Infantry Regiment (35 th RI) of Belfort, the 92 th Infantry Regiment (92 th RI) Clermont-Ferrand and the Chad Marching Regiment (RMT) of Meyenheim. The 152 th Infantry Regiment of Colmar will soon be the 5 th Regiment of the eight planned to be equipped with this vehicle.
The VBCI
This all-terrain vehicle with eight wheels has already served as an infantry support particularly in Lebanon and Afghanistan. It comes in 2 versions:
version infantry combat to carry and protect a battle group of 11 soldiers, while providing fire support with its 25mm cannon;
a command post version.
The VBCI has a top speed of 100 km / h and a range of 750 km. Its 28 tonnes will be air transportable by A400M military transport aircraft designed by Airbus, which should go into service between 2013.
