Tensions over the last couple of decades have been centered on the relatively narrow border with Peru, which represents a simpler problem, but mountainous areas will still introduce [...]

Chile cancelled their helicopter deal with Russia for BlackHawks as well. Russia appears to have let them slip their grip.

Sounds like Americans are looking for more and more countries to sell their weapons. May be they are looking for quick bucks to make money as recession has hit them hard .

Bad news for Our Russian friends. First cheap copies of Chinese weapons and now America as well.

PICTURE: Surplus Dutch F-16s near delivery to Chile

Chile is close to receiving its next batch of ex-Royal Netherlands Air Force Lockheed Martin F-16AM/BM fighters, with the aircraft now being prepared at Leeuwarden air base.

Six of the secondhand fighters will depart the Netherlands on 12 November for future use by the Chilean air force. Their delivery will be supported by a Dutch McDonnell Douglas KDC-10 tanker/transport.

The first three of the F-16s were pictured while making functional check flights from Leeuwarden on 22 September.

Chile currently has 28 F-16s in active use, as listed in Flightglobal's MiliCAS database. This includes 18 A/B-model aircraft previously acquired from the Netherlands and 10 C/D-standard examples acquired new from Lockheed and delivered from 2006.
