C-17 makes 1st landing at Mechuka forward landing ground in Arunachal, 29-km from border.
Longer video of IAF C-17 lands at Mechuka
Nice to see this . The place where it took 3 days of trekking and sumo ride to reach is now suitable for C-17. .
Among all heart break from IAF, something to cheer about.
Heartbreak? What heartbreak?
200 single engine fighter + 200 twin engine fighter and no further support for Tejas, nor any visible backing of AMCA, Laggard in PAK-FA/FGFA deal.
IAF to buy last US C-17 aircraft left
"We will now buy whatever we can and are planning to buy the single aircraft left with the US. In this regard, we are planning to move our proposal in a key Defence Ministry meeting planned to be held this month," a senior IAF source told Mail Today.
Why is the price of this single C-17 = price of 10 C-17 we bought before?
Kya yahan bhi surge pricing hai kya?
Pathetic reporting, you think a C-17 is going to be sold for more than $4bn USD?!! Someone has probably missed a decimal there. The price will be in the $300-400m range.
Sadly we will only ever get a fleet of 11 when the IAF had wanted 22-26, thanks to the UPA.
Abbe joke tha bhai. Y so serious?
BTW, Original order said follow-on option was for 6 more C-17. So where did you find that 22-26 number?
If that number is true, we need to start thinking of an alternative to the C-17 RIGHT NOW!
A couple of years back the IAF had made it clear they needed at least 22 but would liek 26 (I'll try to find a link), then when the white tails were being snatched up they scaled it down to 3 more and now just one more because there are no more units availible, truly pathetic work from the MoD and IAF alike. This mess was entirely predictable, Boeing made it clear they were closing the Long Beach plant and still the IAF/MoD did nothing, just sat back and let it happen then they are running around trying to find a solution.....oops too late.
If the C-17 production line had been kept open another 5 years the IAF would likely have got at least 30.
We can always ask for used C17 if the USAF can spare some.
Didn't got it..............
We are getting the last C-17 in production . So our C-17 number goes up by +1 but falls way short of our requirements . We need 20+ C-17 for strategic airlift of troops and supplies . Very pathetic short sighted approach from MoD and IAF . .
@Ramdasrathsuryavanshi No one will sell a C-17 buddy trust me it's one asset every military wants to keep it . Reason why China has to make its own Y-20 copying the design of C-17 . We have the highest C-17 after US . So only USA has to take something from its 217 inventory and give us in future that will need a lot of hugs and handshake from Modi and Trump to happen .
C-17 at Whales Mach Loop:
Cargo loading/offloading is easier in C-17 as compared to IL-76 aircraft. Less manpower is used to move the 463L pallets in a C-17. However, loading of bigger voluminous load like 20 feet containers is easier in an IL-76 which can be loaded using telphers.
We should have ordered more of these beast
extremely sorry, we need more but we can't order more globemasters because production line is completely shut-off.
Since the production line is closed, we should look for other options like getting the Airbus A400
USAF has more in storage. Will have to wait and see if they can sell 5-6 more. 16 C-17's would be ideal for IAF. A-400 is no match even for IL-76 let alone C-17.
