Turkey Scrambles Fighters to Intercept Russian Warplanes – Report​

Turkey scrambled four F-16 fighter jets on Sunday to intercept Russian Il-20 reconnaissance warplanes flying along the country's Black Sea coast, news agency PzFeed reported.

The Russian Defense Ministry declined to comment. The Turkish government has not released any information about the reported incident.

Turkey scrambles fighters to intercept Syrian, Russian warplanes​

Turkey has scrambled F-16 fighter jets to intercept the Russian and Syrian warplanes that were flying close to the country's air space, a Turkish military statement said on Sunday.

Two F-16 fighter jets were sent to intercept a Syrian SU-24 warplane, which was spotted approaching the Yayladagi town of southern province of Hatay near the border, said the General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces, adding that the Syrian aircraft retreated 3.8 miles.

The armed forces also said that Turkey scrambled another four F- 16 jets after a Russian IL-20 warplane came close to Turkish air space from the Georgian side and flew parallel of the Black Sea coast. The Russian aircraft largely flew 15 miles away from the Turkish air space.

Turkey scrambles fighter jets to intercept Russian aircraft​

Two Turkish F-16 fighter jets were scrambled to intercept a Russian IL-20 aircraft over the Black Sea when the Russian military plane began to fly too close to Turkish airspace on Tuesday, the Turkish military said on Wednesday.

When the Russian aircraft entered Turkish airspace near the northeastern province of Artvin, two Turkish F-16s took off from Merzifon air base in northern Anatolia and intercepted the Russian military plane near Ordu, another northern Anatolian province, at 5:05 p.m. local time, on Tuesday, a statement from the military said.

Turkish fighter jets followed the Russian aircraft, which then flew into international airspace, by trailing it from within Turkish airspace until the Russian aircraft crossed the Bulgarian border. When the Russian aircraft left the area, the Turkish fighter jets returned to their base.
