That's nothing, Bakis have a habbit of putting up pics of Mumbai Metro, Chennai Metro and IR's new trains (Anubhuti exp. etc) and highlighting them as achievements of Ganja and his bro.

These are usually followed by waves of Alhamdulillah, Jazakallah, Mashallah, Subhanallah.

Even when someone pointed out that the uploader should have at least tried to obscure the Devnagri signage in the background!!

PM Modi clears air defence missile deal with Israel for Rs 17,000 crore

The Army will induct over five regiments of the MR-SAM missile which will have around 40 firing units and over 200 missiles of the system.

Highlights

  • 1 Modi cleared a deal to acquire Medium Range Surface to Air Defence Missile (MR-SAM) system from Israel.
  • 2 MR-SAM system has a strike range of 50 km to 70 km.
  • 3 The delivery of the first system for the Army units will begin in 72 months of the signing of the contract.
Giving a strong push to India-Israel defence ties, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday cleared a mega deal for the Army worth Rs 17,000 crore to acquire the Medium Range Surface to Air Defence Missile (MR-SAM) system from Israel to protect India's airspace from enemy aircraft and drones.

"In a meeting of the cabinet committee on security headed by the Prime Minister, the proposal for procuring the MR-SAM air defence system for the Army was approved and these would be deployed by the Army," senior government sources told Mail Today.

The air-defence system developed jointly by the DRDO and Israeli Aircraft Industry can shoot down enemy aircraft, drones, surveillance aircraft and AWACS planes at the strike range between 50 km to 70 km in the sky and will help the country in filling gaps in air defence, the sources informed.

WHAT'S NEW?

As per the proposal cleared by the government, the Army will induct over five regiments of the MR-SAM missile which will have around 40 firing units and over 200 missiles of the system. "The delivery of the first system for the Army units will begin in 72 months of the signing of the contract and they would be ready for deployment in field areas by the year 2023," said the sources.

A DRDO laboratory under scientific advisor to defence minister and missile systems head G Sathish Reddy has been instrumental in developing the target homing system with the Israeli firms and involves a lot of make in India element in the programme. India and Israel are jointly developing similar systems for the Air Force and the Navy. The Air Force had got clearance for its MR-SAM programme in 2009 and the deliveries will begin after delays in the project. The Navy programme is known as Long Range Surface to Air Missile system (LR-SAM) and would be set on its warships. Hyderabad-based Bharat Dynamis Limited will produce the missiles of the system while many other Indian industries like Bharat Electronics Ltd, Larsen and Toubro, TATA group will contribute in the production for many systems and sub-systems in it. A new production facility to deliver 100 missiles a year has been established for such type of long and medium range surface-to-air missiles at BDL. The Army will deploy these air defence systems to provide protection to vital assets and points across the country.

The import content of even first generation low tech Milan ATGM by BDL is 50%, though figures are fudged to show higher indigenisation. BDL will just do screwdriver assembly of MRSAM also

Few of the facts for MR SAM, which is a land based version of BARAK8 LR SAM.

Nova Integrated Systems, a Tata-IAI joint venture, is integrating the MRSAM. Several officials in the defence ministry were said to be "baffled" as to how a private-sector firm had been nominated as the integrator for the missile system. In India, all missile systems are integrated in public-sector units, usually Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL). DRDO had suggested BDL as the integrator for the MRSAM, with the Israelis supplying the seeker and some radar components, and DRDO making the airframe, servos, and propulsion.

@Blackwater and @salute, it means that DRDO had done something more then just nut and screw job and paint job. Lets not even talk about dual pulse motor and fire control software which is fully indigenous.
True, quite a significant amount of work has been done for these missiles locally, good to see we'll be having a decent amount of them in inventory.

IAF's initial order was for 18 fire units (each self contained fire unit has a radar, 3 launchers with 8 missiles each i.e 24 missiles that is roughly 450 missiles. With IA now ordering 40 fire units, we are looking at an additional 960 missiles. IAF order will further grow to at least 40 as well. We are looking at well over 2000 missiles. 1 MR-SAM fire unit in combination with 1 Akash fire unit can effectively protect an airbase

@Immanuel IA version is supposed to be different from IAF.

It was to be smaller, lighter missile with less range on a high mobility platform like one below.

It was supposed to carry 6 instead of the usual 8 missiles.
