It develops and builds the advanced M346 twinjet lead-in fighter trainer, the M311 turbofan basic trainer and the latest variant of the classic F.260 piston-engine primary trainer. Now we have to see if they are short listed which version of the AJT IAF will be interested in.

i would rather go for the A/T-50 Golden egal sinces it can be used as a supersonic AJT and a Fighter jet also

Alenia Aermacchi – M-311

•The M-311 is the new Alenia Aermacchi solution for the basic-advanced fast jet phase of the pilot training syllabus.

•The M-311 avionics demonstrator made its first flight on 1 June 2005.

•It has built-in Health and Usage Monitoring System (HUMS), pressure refueling and On-Board Oxygen Generating System (OBOGS) which brings significant reductions in manpower required for maintenance.

•The refined aerodynamic configuration introduces new wing tips and ventral fuselage fins.

•Strengthened structures and landing gear will allow fatigue life extension to 15,000 flight hours and the maximum manoeuvre load factors are of +7 / -3.5 g at 3,200kg clean take-off weight.

•The high by-pass ratio turbofan engine (Pratt & Whitney Canada JT15D-5C) provides 1.447 kg (3,190 lb) of takeoff and maximum continuous thrust, a 30% increase on the S-211.

•The aircraft avionics includes a glass-cockpit with three LCD MFDs 5'' x 7'' for both front and rear cockpit, HOTAS control, two mission computers for redundancy, embedded GPS/ Inertial Platform, a HUD in the front cockpit and a rear cockpit repeater. All six MFDs are identical.

I would prefer the Yakovlev Yak-130 since it is the latest from the Russian stable and since most of our fighters are Russian and will remain so in the future, it should be the natural choice. It can also be converted into a light attack fighter is more superior in its capabilities to the Mig-AT and is primarily being inducted into Russian airforce as it enables the student pilots to progress in a short time to 4, 4.5 and 5th genr. fighters easily which are the types of aircraft that will make up most of airforce in the near future. Even the Italians are selling it as the Alenia Aermacchi M346. Other than that, other option is the South Korean T-50 Golden Eagle whose design is largely derived from the F-16 and can pack a good punch as light attack aircraft like the Yak-130.

I would recommend to go with the T-50 Golden Eagle (South Korean) supersonic advanced trainer and light attack jet.

The T-50 has a closer resemblance to the Fighting Falcon.

A Order for 56 no's is Big enough & South Korea should not hesitate for a TOT, but the problem lies with the General Electric F404 turbofan engine with FADEC, will GE allow or support the TOT.

The 57 Advanced Jet Trainers (AJT), the Hawk Mk-132 from the BAE Systems of UK, the deal which was held up earlier over price, has been cleared by the commercial negotiation committee (CNC) of the Ministry of Defence and has sent the Rs 9400 crore deal to the Ministry of Finance, before it goes to the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS).

As per the deal Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), will make the aircraft under license production with BAE and Rolls Royce of UK, where BAE will provide the avionics and Rolls Royce will give the engine for the aircraft, of which 40 are for the Indian Air Force (IAF) and 17 for the Indian Navy.

The deal has to be cleared by the Ministry of Finance (MoF), which is likely this month, after which the CCS approval will come. The contract falls under Defence Procurement Procedure (DPP)-2006, in the category 'Buy and Make', though the request for information (RFI) was sent to six vendors across the globe by the MoD, which are the Czech-built Aero Vodochody L-159 Alca (advanced light combat aircraft), Alenia Aermachhi M-346, Russian MiG AT and YAK-130, American Lockheed Martin T-50 Golden Eagle, and the UK BAE Systems for its new variant of the Hawk, which is Hawk-128. But the Hawk Mk-132 was shortlisted, which is already in the inventory of the IAF, as per an old contract for 66 aircraft, of which BAE has supplied 24 and the remaining 42 to be made by HAL under license

Huh? We are spending 9,400 crores on 57 jet TRAINERS and 10000-12000 crores on 126 M-MRCA ?

Project HJT-36 was scrapped by HAL after its design part underwent evaluation by the IAF's air staff requirement in 2005. IAF was not interested in developing such trainer & went ahead on importing Hawks from UK

why not iaf gives suggestion?what they want and what are there observation look at china though they didn`t had any competitor in last 20 years because they solve their border dispute but their defence industry silently devolped their abilities

It would be preferable if the selection committee goes for either the Yaks or the Hawks. Yaks because of the equipment commonality with the rest of our Russian-made assets and Hawks because we already have Hawks. Unfortunately BAE isn't really living upto its expectations and therefore I feel Yaks or even the MiG AT trainers would do fine.

Choosing Italian would only make India more close to a country that doesn't have friendly intentions with India and her people's way of life.

Sure, Italy hates you so much they help design and provide propulsion for IAC, build your fleet tankers and offer ToT on their AESA radar for EF. Oui, Italians hate your guts. :sarcastic:

India demands $10 million from British military firm

India is asking British military firm BAE Systems to pay millions of dollars for the troubles it faced in assembling jet trainers bought from the firm.
In its demand for compensation, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) cites the difficulties faced in assembling the Hawk advanced jet trainers (AJT) which were bought for the Indian Air Force (IAF). Under the original contract of 2004, 42 of these single-engine aircraft were to be assembled by HAL and 24 to be delivered directly by BAE.
Several tools and equipment supplied by the British military firm had to be “reworked”, said a HAL source. “We faced plenty of problems with the entire programme” that delayed the assembling of the aircraft, the source added. The defence PSU had to “re-tool and re-design” many of the equipment supplied by BAE and there were issues with spare parts too which created trouble for HAL.
Because of the “unwanted trouble” that was “not mandated by contractual conditions”, the organisation has now asked BAE to pay it around $10.5 million, a sources said. Negotiations are under way between the supplier’s representatives and HAL officials in Bangalore, the source said.
It is unusual for such a compensation to be sought by an Indian firm in a military contract. The contract with BAE took shape after two decades of negotiations. In a strong signal of its unhappiness with the firm, the IAF had last year issued a fresh tender for another global competition to buy a new batch of 57 advanced jet trainers. Originally, these were also to be bought from BAE.

we have no chance Atul!!! Given the variety of aircrafts we have, its nightmarish to maintain such wide variety!!! better restrict the variation to minimum!!!!

What I believe is that we have already bought BAE Hawks and working on our own for Future use!! (Plz understand a corrupt babu's insistence on foreign procurement)

yes. it is there. they have procured AL-55I engine specially developed for it from russia. they are mating it and hopefully should come along in the near future.

From what i concluded the hjt-36, the hawk and all the advanced trainers except the t-50 fall broadly under the same category wrt speed, twin engine, weight, light attack etc. So this could be like split the stakes equally betten foreign and indigenous systems.

the next generation of advanced trainers be it t-50, or eads supersonic trainer r all analogous to the present tejas trainer version. With gtre announcing that they are developing a non-after burning version of kaveri and air force sources informing that the first squadran would be placed down south in tamil nadu and roukie pilots after training on advanced trainers would be put on tejas before moving to heavy class fighters. By 2020, I believe the learning curve of indian fighters would be as follows basic trainer(hal has partnered to produce, may be the urgent replacement iaf is mulling), advanced trainer(hawk,hjt-36), then combat trainers(hawk,hjt-36). To light fighter category (tejas, ngfa, uav), then proceeding to heavy category.
Since the future would be totally unmanned v could see the iaf thrusting more towards simulators than actual flying in future.

Why not go in for a twin engined trainer like the Alenia M-346.........It just gives a more rounded training as a lot of our aircrafts are twin engined and we already have the Hawk for the single engine based training
