Like someone mentioned in the forum earlier, the inadequacies of IN are coming to the fore with such large scale deployment ( largest in 7 decades)

"The Indian Navy is trying to add new anti-piracy capabilities. Earlier this week, marine commandos with motorized crafts parachuted into the Arabian Sea from a US-made C-130 transport plane. The commandos could add capability if the nearest warship is at quite a distance from a hijacked vessel"

"as the Houthi militants gave the green light to Chinese and Russian vessels in the trade corridor, Beijing needed to maintain a balanced approach so it would not be blamed for "conspiring with the Houthis and Iran"."

While Chinese trade partner UK is fighting houthis , same can't be said of Chineese.

One thing I don't get, almost every NATO ship is shooting down drones/missiles, but our frigates & destroyers haven't shot down even one.

Considering we are the second largest force in Gulf after USA, we should have acquired multiple kills by now. So either we are specifically choosing not to shoot down the Iranian/Houthi drones or our ships are unable to shoot them down.

What do you guys think ?

Geopolitical constraints. Houthis are Muslim after all. It will do no good antagonising any party right before elections. It'll probably result in a bomb blast or impediment to oil supply.

Yeah so being Muslim is the ultimate get-out-of-jail card ? We are patrolling the Gulf specifically because savages of Yemen has taken over them to attack the supply route.

If we are specifically choosing to not shoot down the drones attacking merchant ships, then we are essentially doing nothing except for being an ambulance in the Gulf. Rather just pull back instead ?

Not reading any news about India bound container ships being attacked lately.

True, so we will choose to defend ships only bound for India ?

Remember this is not a India-specific problem. Attacks on ships raise the insurance price & operation cost of shipping through Suez-Gulf of Aden which is borne by all the SE Asian countries.

Hitting Houthis will also mean antagonising Iran. I doubt India will do anything disruptive to strain relationship with Iran at this point.

China also playing it smart, that is by ego massaging Iran.

When your fuel is locked up in Muslim lands, yes it is a get out of jail free card. We won't really even be able to go to intensive war against Pakistan due to the possibility the sheikhs may stop oil

Not so long ago india built roads and other infrastructure in Afghanistan, Taliban mostly left them alone, but Taliban used to attack US and ghani forces .

Short term and long term perspective is required.

So called "moulana" modiji has declared Persian as a classical language, try as they may mullas of Iran and chicomese can't overcome Indian middle East cultural religious ties.

It is bound to increase especially with renaissance in middle East countries and the more they embrace their true identity and past.
