Procedure to integrate AESA Radar on LCA Tejas to be initiated soon.
.
Israeli EL/M 2054 for Tejas is fully scrapped, and DRDO will now go for Indigenous AAAU/ Uttam AESA Radar in our LCA. Once done, LCA will have 20 sorties in Air to Air Mode as well as 180 sorties in Air to Ground & Air to Sea Modes respectively with each sortie lasting for approx 1 hour.
Now only certification and integration of Kaveri is left....then Tejas will be truly make in India...

A top Army general today said Pakistan has a better military industrial base and exports more defence equipment than India, as he came down heavily on ordnance factories which manufacture weapons for the forces. Lt. Gen. Sarath Chand, Vice Chief of Army Staff (VCOAS), said the ordnance factories have not been able to keep pace with changing technology while “there is no competition whatsoever” and it is “an unsuccessful method of supporting our defence requirements”. “I would even go to the extent of saying that Pakistan probably has a better industrial base, as far as defence production is concerned, than our country. In fact they export defence equipment abroad, definitely more than what we are doing,” he said. He wondered whether the functioning of ordnance factories is because of the assured orders they have or the lack of accountability. “There is little or no research and development. They do not even have the capability of absorbing the industry through transfer of technology, and in some cases they have even failed to assemble products that have been imported from abroad,” Lt. Gen. Chand said. “It is very hard to see ordnance factories changing in the present state. Overall it has become an unsuccessful method of supporting our defence requirements,” he said. He was speaking at the inaugural session of AMICON 2017, a two-day conference organised by the Army and the CII. He noted that having indigenous industrial capability is very crucial for the country. He further cautioned that in an event of a war, one has to look abroad for its sustenance. “And very often, friends have let us down whenever the chips have been down,” Lt. Gen. Chand observed. He said the ‘Make in India’ programme, the Defence Procurement Policy 2016, the strategic partnership model, and the creation of the Army Design Bureau (ADB), are major steps taken by the government for fast-tracking indigenisation in the sector.

What can we do if we have such generals in our army
He is not wrong. Even though Pakis can't design a bicycle on their own they manufacture their own ammo and because of the thousands of Sarkari Damads in OFB, India ends up importing hundreds of crores worth of small arms ammo.

OFB has been the cancer of Indian MIC, the sooner we induce a chemotherapy the better we will be.

Its not about monpoly its about junking your product by advertising your oppenent.

If ofb is incompetent then everyone has a share in it (government, ofb, defence planners, and army).

Its not about giving support to ofb. Its about giving feedback. Our defence force don't even know that in the time of war indigenous product are far more cheaper then imported ones. They don't care about cost they don't even know that they can the front but can loose at home on economic front. No armyman will die but we can loose our nation without a fight if we continue this army policy of importing everything.
Either we can support our industrial base for once or continue junking it and do nothing and loose whole nation.

Yes they design their own ammo. We design our own missiles ships..
Now world class ships nuclear submarines aircrfts radars and much more.
If he is right then then you can import these items from porkistan or i say china. If you think that they have best or even good quality.

We have a army who can reject even European iserlies American rifles and now you are comparing stantard with porkistan. Good luck

@harsh Let's talk facts not emotions or deshbhakti, because I have the same certificate of deshbhakti that you have. Ad hominem is a sign of a weaker mind, unless you are trolling, then it's fun.

Do not confuse a shitty government department with the country itself. OFB is not some holy cow that you and I have to worship. It's a fucked up organization that deserves to killed and buried post haste and that too without a headstone. Same is true for many other government organizations/ ministry like IOC, Ministry of food processing etc.

Army Vice Chief is absolutely right . Even with current Strategic Partnership Policy in place there is much resistance. Because it is open only for selective technology not for all. GoI makes sure that hurdles are present at every step while doing any business.

The army vice chief is basically giving the private manufactures a glimpse of the Defence market they can get their hands on if they are ready to jump into Defence Strategic partnership model under make in india..Why would a Army vice chief talk to indian private manufacturers about opportunities in defence if he is so keen on importing ..

He is saying as OFB sucks if you private guys can step in with quality products and R&D you are set to take the chunk of the pie ....

I think its the right way to go about taking the monoply from the market and give some competition unless someones ass is on fire they will not push forward and come out with their best ..

If you let the current way how OFB is running they will live happily unless you don t push them to survival stage there is nothing best going to come out from them ..Lethargic and procrastination are two words for OFB ..

Examples : Remember how F-35 was chosen out of the competition between Boeing, Lockheed and Northrop from the Joint strike Fighter program

It's Time OFB has to understand that it cannot keep biting more than it can chew ...

While this is true, the improvement in OFB has been asked for a really long time. This is not the first time. We should come down on him if he was lying or if he was exaggerating. There is hardly any case that any of us can put up to defend OFB's. Kinda like govt. schools.

Only one word 'Corruption". And it's there at every step of running this Organisation. Political class has own share of it, like all other players. From issuing tender, delaying the decision to cancelling the tender they scam money.

I come from industrial town of Ludhiana. There is a saying that 'There is no machine that Ramgahriyas can not make in Ludhiana'. Many Industry leaders have been banned by countries like South Korea and Taiwan. They went there to see and buy the machines, came back and made their own and better . The point I am making is that we have brains, skilled labour and strong industrial base. Gasping like OFB and moaning day and night by Military establishment doesn't make any sense.
