Looks like you can even lay roads on the top deck of the Metro fly over? This could have saved so much cost instead of building an train only system. Its tragic how good things fail in India and bad things like Admiral Gorshkov get the funding.

I agree. They should build roads/flyovers on top. Otherwise there is no use in it, why not just build a proper metro?

If there is a road make it accessible to only two wheelers .Heavy vehicles and cars should not be allowed there

The idea was thought quite sometime back and it was planned to take advantage of the existing flyovers on main routes of the mumbai city.
Definitely the road on top is a priority and that was the original plan in itself

Seems like a good idea. Hope they start moving on this project soon. Have heard of this sky train for quite some time now.

Very smart idea.

Yes, we need to build flyovers like that, with roads on top and trains suspended underneath.

However, I don't think we should allow two-wheelers on those roads. Only public transport and taxis. However, they could be used as toll roads so if any private vehicle, two-wheeler or private car were to use it, they would have to pay a hefty toll.

Will bring in a lot of money.

Its capacity is nowhere relieving for the traffic load any major city in India facing right now. Surely good & efficient idea but a supplementary measure. All those cities need deeply penetrated network of local metro trains which can handle the ever growing population & release the gigantic load faced by actual roads.

Delhi has set great example, hope rest will be getting their Metro very soon.

Now it really is suspended because of the accident. Does anyone have any news about the project? Will it be implemented ever?

We have monorail in Mumbai now. It is much safer and much cheaper than metros. Suitable for moderate level of traffic. Best suited for small towns
