Indian Air Force: News & Discussions

Why do we need so many types of aircraft? It is a logistical nightmare! Just order more Rafales to be the MMRCA. We have the SU 30MKI as heavy and the Tejas Mk1 and Mk1a in the light category. And aren't they all multi role combat aircraft? The AMCA will hopefully one day be our 5-6th gen combat...

Would have probably come home if we had made it worth his while. Time to stop being stingy I guess. We still need a lot of cutting edge technology. Wait decades or buy it now?

This is getting tedious. You win. Though I'm looking forward to your rants when the deal is signed for the Rafale. Very soon. I am told. Cheers!

Well I'm sure the IAF is not as stupid as you make them out to be. I'm pretty sure they factored all the pros and cons while selecting the winning bid. Maybe they'll consult you next time. ;)

Escorting the jaguar: perhaps the mk2 with better combat range. The mk1 doesn't even qualify with its puny combat range. They're good for lingering around the border, forget escorting the jags in strike missions. Its been a great learning experience with Tejas, period. They will be inducted...

As discussed in various fora, why not classify the tejas mk-I as lead in fighter/trainer and induct the mk-II as a tactical light combat aircraft in specific role?

Re: Why is Indian Airforce is not accepting Tejas mk1 completely ? What is the point in just covering up numbers if they are not tactically feasable? Do you buy 4 maruti 800s just because you have a 4 car garage even though you're loaded and use the expressway everyday to commute?

Re: Why is Indian Airforce is not accepting Tejas mk1 completely ? Tejas is indian pride and is being inducted in limited numbers for the sake of it. It is more of a glorified jet trainer at the moment. Yes, one day we hope to see a modern desi aircraft take to the skies and we have our bets...

I am told that these choppers also played a big role in putting out jungle fires in the Japfu mountains of Kohima, Nagaland. They filled buckets from lakes in Dimapur 75-85 kms away to douse the raging infernos at Mt Japfu.
