    India's Moon Exploration Program

It is strange that they haven't announced the specific date of any launches, not even of the SSLV-D3. That was originally supposed to go up by the end of March.

    India's Moon Exploration Program

It was supposed to have a life in outer space of 3 years. Is this an experiment?

    India's Moon Exploration Program

Very good details of the lander and rover, from a scientist directly involved. And I would say Pallav Bagla has redeemed himself, to a degree.

    India's Moon Exploration Program

Now there is some question as to whether India landed in the south polar region of the moon. A Chinese scientist( why is that not surprising) is saying India landed in the southern hemisphere of the moon, but not the polar region. What are the dimensions of that polar area? Anyway, what cannot...

    India's Moon Exploration Program

Another tidbit about Chandrayaan-1, it was the 68th mission to the moon( at the time), and it was the most heavily instrumented satellite or probe, that anyone had sent. With 11 instruments, 5 Indian, 6 non-Indian, it really had the character of a science mission.

    India's Moon Exploration Program

Vikram landed about 600 km from the actual south Pole, well within the south pole region. At what distance would a landing be outside that region!?

    India's Moon Exploration Program

For the Vikram lander, did all the sensors finally work, as well as the 4 800N engines? The landing went off superbly, but it would be comforting to know that everything worked anyway. ISRO did say that even if all the sensors, and 2 of the engines fail, a landing is very likely. Still...

    India's Moon Exploration Program

It would be nice( not to mention educative) to read a rigorous technical description of how Vikram landed on the moon, starting from its, let's say, separation from the orbiter. What were all the technologies involved, electronics, software, control systems, propulsion...at each stage, right to...

    India's Moon Exploration Program

The great success of the lunar landing, may have triggered confidence of ISRO to go ahead with another landing- next time on Mars. And hence the Venus mission pushed back.

Yep, and I'm sure we'd also love to see a photo taken of the lander!

    India's Moon Exploration Program

He was very articulate, upbeat and encouraging about India's achievement in landing on the moon, on Times Now hosted by Navika Kumar. Nothing negative or dismissive at all.

What an absolute imbecile. I feel dirty even responding to him. No more.

    India's Moon Exploration Program

^^^ As far as possible, let's ignore or marginalise those idiots, hard as it is. But no argument if you give them a thumping, verbal or otherwise! Hey, it's 3 hours since the landing, would it be time for the rover to appear?

    India's Moon Exploration Program

I knew I wasn't imagining it :). This time, S.Somanath himself states that the landing wasn't necessarily the hardest part of this mission. It was the launch, the entering of the moon's orbit, the separation of the lander from the orbiter, and finally the landing itself, which is no easy task...

    India's Moon Exploration Program

The Chandrayaan -3 is a huge and important story, but I do wish sometimes, that there wasn't so much coverage and discussion in the Indian media. Mostly for the reason that, if there is a glitch or problem, it won't look so good on the media. And of course on ISRO, and India generally. Kinda...

Can't he appear on Zoom or Skype, to congratulate the scientists

    India's Moon Exploration Program

The whole of India, and parts of the world, are eagerly awaiting the date of Wednesday the 23rd. There would have to be some major issue to postpone it 4 days.
