Arjun Main Battle Tank (MBT) Mark II

Unlikely. It'll reduce the size of the hull stowage vault. Leopard2 style designs not keep ammo behind commander (on turret) & behind turret basket (like M1)won't allow the downward blowoff panels. Actually forget the above. A better turret design already exists for Arjun. Turret autoloader...

Arjun Main Battle Tank (MBT) Mark II

I thought I'd reply this properly. Arjun is huge, but so is Merkava or Challenger & while I don't think we can adopt it en masse now, the flaws of the base design can surely be eliminated. The present one is above & my modified one below. 1st is slanting the roof to make room for another...

Arjun Main Battle Tank (MBT) Mark II

None. Arjun order would have been viable 15-years-ago right after comperative trials, instead of another batch of cramped, inaccurate, exploding deathtraps in 2007. Right now I'd rather have the available FMBT turret mounted on TankEx hull (with hydropneumatic suspension & rubbered tracks &...

Arjun Main Battle Tank (MBT) Mark II

Discussed multiple times before. See old posts. Also Arjun has effectively been killed off. So no point.

Guess we should call it Arjun Mark 1A now...

Arjun Main Battle Tank (MBT) Mark II

Mark1A(?) didn't seem to have issues regarding stabilisation or dust particles. But why was absence of ERA be an issue, especially on the front instead of sides? Doesn't Arjun's front have so-called "heavy armour" ? (...although T-90's front apparently has equal Line of sight thickness.) Still...

Arjun Main Battle Tank (MBT) Mark II

Maybe shoddy build quality like INSAS? It performed reasonably well, but we don't know how reliable & rugged it is... Plus T-90 has better penetration compared to Mark1, which also can't fire missiles... nor have an RCWS. Maybe Mark 2 will get lucky (What about FMBT?)

Arjun Main Battle Tank (MBT) Mark II

That was the older picture of Mark2, probably the 68t one (with full ERA & side armour modules). The weight later got reduced be a few tonnes. As the above tweet states Arjun Mark1A to be lighter, i think they did those modifications to the base platform, thus Mark1A is most likely a Mark1...

Nope, nada...No news on Mark 1A nor Mark 2!

Arjun Main Battle Tank (MBT) Mark II

There is as good chance that, by "accepted weight" he'd meant the new weight after the reduction & the journalist simply googled in the 68 tonnes into the brackets...just like he £ucked up Tejas Mark ii's 20% weight increase! Otherwise what's with all those years spent on weight reduction &...

Arjun Main Battle Tank (MBT) Mark II

I doubt it. They don't complain much about Dhruv, Pinaka, ATAGS, Patka etc. Arjun does have several shortcomings. The issues pointed out in #1891 & #1895 haven't still been proved invalid. To replace T-90 Bhishma it'd have to be waaaaaaay better than T-90 MS, atleast in the key aspects, or...

Arjun Main Battle Tank (MBT) Mark II

Fair enough... The ammo would definitely be upgraded & the engine changed! But the holes in frontal armour layout remains a concern. Let's wait & see what kind of design changes have been going on... Shouldn't comment until we get to see the redesigned Arjun Mark ii. Still... If the NGMBT...

Arjun Main Battle Tank (MBT) Mark II

C'mon. It's a hypothetical scenario... Nonetheless, the point I was trying to make still stands. Suppose the APS took some arty shrapnels & is malfunctioning... Suppose it's a rare one-on-one with both pointing at each other... What I'm saying is; what use is Arjun's "heavy armour" if, in case...

Arjun Main Battle Tank (MBT) Mark II

Agreed to most points, except that part... Arjun's tech might be India's latest one's, but the base platform is not. The Mark 2 seems like a jugaad upgrade of it. You said "heavy armour of Arjun". Ok, take a look at this... When an Al Khalid fires 5 Naiza DU shots, aiming for the centre of its...

Arjun Main Battle Tank (MBT) Mark II

That fact doesn't address any of the concerns I've raised...read the very 1st sentence of my post (after disclaimer)! Yes, Arjun is better, but T-90 still holds some key advantages like ammo penetration & fewer weak spots in front armour. Cross-country speed is also similar in both...

Disclaimer: No, I'm not a Paki agent. No, I'm not a Chinki agent. The following points are sincerely raised. That's how I see the situation. I might be wrong... so feel free to correct them. Otherwise, please just agree to disagree. Ok so, what would be the reasons for Indian Army to switch to...

Arjun Main Battle Tank (MBT) Mark II

I read a joke (not a d!ck...please don't take it too hard) on Quora. It went something like this: We don't have to worry about tankies becoming tandooris in Tincan-90S. If India-Porkistan goes into war they won't get to see any action. Most of our tanks will break down even before they reach...

Arjun Main Battle Tank (MBT) Mark II

Maybe... I don't think the army itself is anti-Arjun. If they were they could've made better excuses like pointing out how its turret front is less protected in the right side, for example. BTW, any info on the status of the indigenous 1500hp engine? The present one is large, heavy, gasguzzling...

Army wages war against ‘overweight’ Arjun tank DECCAN CHRONICLE | SANJIB KR BARUAH Feb 26, 2018 Additional weight of 3 tonnes has reportedly resulted in problems relating its agility, mobility and especially operational employability. NEW DELHI: The state-of-the-art Arjun Main Battle Tank Mk...
