To get an idea of the MWF, compare the Rafale to the Gripen E/F. That will clarify your doubts.

MWF is single engined. That alone greatly limits it's utility as a true multirole platform for strike purposes in a contested environment. (Unless you have stealth like the F 35.) You need more range and payload along with greater reliability. That requires two engines.
